Best DSLR for the Money (and Video)

I've been looking for a good budget dslr for my (potential) YouTube channel but here are some requirement:

- 1080p/720p Video Support

- SD Card Support

- 3.5mm Microphone Audio Port

- Tamron 18-200mm Auto Focus Lense Compatibility

- No Lense Option

Prefered Brands (Although it Doesn't Really Matter):

- Nikon

- Canon

- Sony

Please Don't include Canon T3i unless you have some thing nessasary to say.

Plz Help,

MRE

I like the t5i as a start. I like the screen but I have an sl1 and wish I got that. For a high end maybe 70d or the t6s?

Just because you don't care, doesn't mean other others don't. Don't be a self-centered asshole. -Thank You a PSA from the people who do not say random shit on the internet.

I quite enjoyed my time with the D5200. Shot my girlfriends Intro Digital final project with it.

Your question is WAY too open ended though. Include a price.

"for the money" is far too vast. Shall we start suggesting the best cameras around $15,000 for you? That's money.

Budget???

The t3i is good for video and cheap. Get a camcorder if you want good video without much work.

Budget as in ~<500

Budget does not mean "cheap" - it means to fit in your budget.

For <$500, you don't really have many options. Of which, the T3i is likely your best bet, so I'm not sure why you're saying no to it; it has everything you're asking for, and is a fantastic starter video DSLR, especially if you're dropping a Tamron lens on it.

If you're aim is Video first, Photography second or none at all.  Get a camcorder.  Especially if you are only using it for making videos on Youtube.  And a big advantage of camcorders like a Sony HDR series is the fact that they have image stabilization.  I haven't heard of any DSLR that has IS for recording videos.

If you really MUST have a DSLR for videos get a Canon, Panasonic... just do some searches on google.  I don't have experience with Sony's implementation of recording videos in their photo cameras, and I suggest you avoid Nikons. Their implementation of the video feature is not on par with Canon's.  Nikon's are better at photos than videos.

With DSLR videography, prepare to invest in a lot of accessories for recording good audio, mounts for keeping things stable, for focusing, etc.

Everything you just said is pretty much wrong

Any DSLR can shoot with IS - use a lens with IS, some cameras also have 3 and 5 axis sensor shift stabilisation built in (olympus, sony etc)

Sony SLT/nex/alpha cameras are fantastic at video, as are Olympus and other brands, Nikon cameras take nice video too, on par with canon if not better sometimes,

Agree about the bottom part, there is a lot more to good video than the camera you choose, in fact thats probably only 20% of it

I have both a Nikon D800 and D4, and sometimes I use their built in video feature.  However what you can do with the built in functions are limited compared to what a Canon 5D MK III can do for video, or even the older MK II.  Hence I am forced to use an Atomos Ninja if I ever want better video quality that I can edit.  I also have to use external mics and audio recorders.

As for Image stabilization of photo cameras, they were designed primarily for taking photos.  Not for videos.

My comment is based on the OP's post. All he wants is max 1080p quality.  Using a DSLR or even higher end video camera (that costs at least as a high end gaming PC) will offer him more creativity, but is he willing to spend all that?  If he's simply going to be a hobbyist, a camcorder is a good place to start with.

Video with a DSLR comes additional costs:

1. Lenses (though normally a 50-85mm prime is a great choice, if he wants creativity he will need wide angles and telephotos)

2. Batteries

3. Accessories for getting better audio

4. Accessories for getting smoother video

5. Rail mounts, follow focus gear

All of these add up.

yeah  A D800 is limited in video compared to a 5d (especially as they can use ML) but in the lower end ranges like a 600d etc they are really not much different to an equivalent nikon like a d5300 which has almost identical video features but features a much better sensor

It all depends, most people on here seem to get a camera for shooting reviews (for their youtube channel) and stuff so you dont need a rail mount or follow focus for that use, just some lighting, a fluid head tripod and maybe a slider for some nice shots, can probably get away with a 50 f1.8 for most of their shots to keep themselves low on budget etc

A ninja will help any camera, most of them shoot with super shitty codecs, even a 5dmk3 isnt great without being hacked, and I use a ninja on my A7 for that reason too (especially when colour correcting)

I have shot lovely video on a D800 though, and if not grading it, looks fine out of camera with light tweaking/sharpening

If the OP wants to record videos for their own personal product reviews and unboxing, I think I would still recommend a camcorder and a tripod, rather than a DSLR video setup.  But if the OP is being sponsored and paid by companies to review their product, then the OP can buy whatever they want.

Using a DSLR for video isn't impossible and the extra gear can be cool too.
