@aDham_z this really shouldn't be marked as the answer unless you want to edit your question lol

  1. You asked for C# and he recommended something for C++
  2. And CodeAdacemy doesn't teach C# or even C++ for that matter

I guess if you changed your mind and would rather start learning HTML and CSS now then that's fine too. They are important to learn if you want to build websites, however you wont start to get a feel for actual programming until you start using JavaScript or another server side language. It won't take too long to learn the basics of HTML and CSS and move on to that though.

I'll throw in some more Web developer resources that can get you started as a beginner and that also provide a path to follow so you're not left with the "what next" feeling (at least for a while)

  • Web Development using Python & Django - This guides you through some tutorials to follow as a beginner (CodeAcademy is one of them, although not the very first thing it recommends). It'll get you familiar with the client side with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, then move you into the server side using Python.
  • The Odin Project - Like the above, this is another set of tutorials that guides you through the process of starting step by step. Instead of Python, these tutorials use Ruby for the server side work.
  • Develop a Job - This site is designed to teach you how to start a career in web development. Even if you don't plan on making a career out of this, it's worth a read through as it provides information about the different parts of web development that you probably aren't aware of as a beginner.

Additionally, if you like learning through video tutorials I'll add Treehouse and Lynda (support Linus by using their offer code) as places to learn web development. Both require monthly payments, but both have a free trial you can test things out with before they charge you anything.

Well I think he's just asking about programming in general, so I just thought C++ was a good place to start tbh. Especially since Unity uses it.

Even if you wanted to recommend the OP learn something else, you should at least make sure the resource you recommend actually teaches it. Too many people respond with "CodeAcademy" when asked where to learn language "x"  when it doesn't even teach that language.

I'm sorry I offended you almighty overlord. The words 'I think' somewhat imply that I wasn't sure.

Settle your petal friend.

There's no need to assume offence just because I pointed out your mistake. I just think we should do our best to give beginners accurate information here. Getting started with programming can be confusing enough as it is.

@madknight3 this is quite obviously a troll thread. Among other things the answer that was least accurate and least like english was selected after all...

I'm sorry I made a simple spelling mistake, and that I was trying to answer some questions on LTT whilst being at school. The very fact that you're making assumptions about me and my knowledge about coding from one post is not making me look like a fool, but rather yourself. I value this forum a lot and like to give solid answers often, programming probably isn't my strongest point but I sure know a hell of a lot across a variety of different languages, so the very fact that you are accusing me of a 'troll' dumbfounds me. Take another look at the COC and attempt to stop being a jerk.

Alright, no harm done. There can be some misinterpretation across the internet sometimes.

Sorry but beyond the 'simple spelling mistake' is the fact that the information you provided is wholly incorrect. Worse still is that it's been subjectively marked as the correct answer.

The very fact that you're making assumptions about me and my knowledge about coding from one post is not making me look like a fool, but rather yourself.

I don't see where any assumptions have been made about you, your knowledge or lack thereof for that matter. Please let me know where you think that has been the case.

...so the very fact that you are accusing me of a 'troll' dumbfounds me.

It wasn't directed entirely at you (I thought that might have been obvious) but let's review the obnoxious noises that we have from you so far then:

I'm sorry I offended you almighty overlord...

Are you still 'dumbfounded'? If so then I fear that you may never obtain a state of clarity.

There can be some misinterpretation across the internet sometimes.

Such as your clear inability to read or even comprehend the content of a website for instance - in other words, your misinterpretation of it? As far as I can see, my point still stand; life is far too short to be wasted in a thread such as this.

Dude, I said, 'I think' in the post, it wasn't an almighty definite answer. You basically said I was stupid in numerous ways, maybe not directly but you definitely did. Besides that, there are plenty of other avenues that people can seek on the internet to learn programming, I mistakenly though that codeacademy had a C++ program, I was wrong, settle down; codeacademy is still a good site to learn other languages. You're basically just causing meaningless conflict on the internet for literally no reason, you're not helping anyone but your incessant need need to be an arse. Anyway I'm done, neither one of us is contributing the op's actual question at this point anyway.
