I7 2600k Motherboard Support

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

I would say the Z77-Extreme 4 from ASRock, but why the old platform? Is it stuff you already have or can get a good deal on?

What motherboards supports the I7 2600 and I7 2600k and are easy to overclock on.

i have already got a i7 2600 but i might get a i7 2600k and overclock it

If you can get a good deal, go for it, but if not (like if the price isn't comparable to a 4690K or 1231 v3 with a decent Z97 mobo), then just save up.

don't bother, the 2600 is unlocked too, just not as much. You can bring the multiplier up to 42. And it wouldn't make sense to throw away a perfectly good 2600 for a 2600k, at that point you might as well get a modern cpu.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

i thought only the k series processor were unlocked so if i get an asus motherboard are they easy to overclock on. Are there any tutorials on overclocking on a 2600

that's true for the cpus that came after sandy bridge, but the 2000 series is still partially unlocked even without the k. You don't need a specific tutorial, it works in the same way as the 2600k. If you have a compatible motherboard the options will be there. It's like that with mine at least.

I have a similar question to the OP I want to buy a new mobo for overclocking the 2600k since I am holding off on buying a new CPU+mobo until at least 7th gen and my current mobo is an awful dell-alienware that has locked OC options so I can only go up to 4.1ghz and there is no windows 10 support. I am already getting weird issues and looking around they are definitely due to lack of windows 10 support. I have heard the ASRock z77 Extreme 4 is a great option but it has no 10 support either. Does anybody know of any 2600k boards that have/will have win 10 support? Please no replies that just pretty much say idk because I can get that far myself. Just reply if you know there definitely is a mobo like this that exists, you KNOW there aren't any atm or if you KNOW any boards that old will most likely never get windows 10 driver updates so I should just buy a new CPU+Motherboard. Thanks.
