One of the RAM slots not working

SoKre17

Hello, here's the situation.I have a HP-pavillion g6 laptop.Today i decided to clean the fan so i took everything out(including the RAM).When i finished cleaning the fan I put everything back in it's place. When I turned on my laptop,I could hear the fan working and computer seemed to be on,but it had a black screen. So I did some research and found out it's probably something to do with RAM,so I what i realised is that when I pull out the RAM from first of my to RAM slots the computer works fine, but know I have less RAM.My questions are: 1.Is there a way to fix this? 2.How did I cause this to happen?

Any answer will be appreciated.Thank you in advance.

P.S.This is my first time posting here,so if I posted in the wrong section or something like that,I apologise.

Are you sure you isolated the issue? It could be just the RAM stick you have instead of the slot. Did you try to interchange the rams (considering you have two sticks) and see if it's working?

Yes,it's definitely the slot, because I had put both RAM sticks into the slot that works and computer had recognised them both.

Still, try using the other slot

If it is the slot you'll probably have to repair it yourself (if you are able too) or bring it to a repair shop. You could also bring it to hp, but your warrenty is void (because you have opened the laptop) and it is more expensive then bringing it to a repair shop

Thank you for the answers! I am willing to try repairing it myself.I have read on some other forum that someone used a toothbrush and alcohol and that it worked.Anybody got an argument why I shouldn't do that?

Soft toothbrush, high percentage alcohol and being delicate won't do much damage.

Make sure to discharge yourself (and all power sources off.. obviously).
