GTX 970 would do nicely (whilst not reaching 144Hz on max all the time) but a 980 would do you fine for years.

Heyyo,

What is your current PC specifications? Or are you planning a new build? Tbh 144Hz is awesome yes, but your main goal shouldn't be to max out 144Hz, it should be to have a PC that can always maintain a minimum of 60fps all the time with the graphical settings you want. With that in mind...

For 1920x1080 Gsync 144Hz? NVIDIA GTX 980.

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Classified ACX 2.0 Video Card ($493.98 @ Newegg)

Monitor: Acer XB270H Abprz 144Hz 27.0" Monitor ($476.77 @ Amazon)

Total: $970.75

Otherwise? If you wanted a little more cost-effectiveness with albeit slightly less responsive adaptive sync during lower framerates?

AMD R9 390 with a freesync monitor.

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 8GB SOC Video Card ($328.99 @ SuperBiiz)

OR... since AMD's more cost effective? You can go overkill on the GPU for the same price and then not have to even worry about any minimum framerate issues ever lol. ;)

A 980ti....

It  will still not suit your needs though. Don't expect 144fps in every game. It has been said above and I agree, some games are just too demanding for that kinda fps.

The 980 just about averages around 60fps for 1080p Ultra in Witcher 3, just to give you an example for that card. So either you get multiple 980s or 390s or you will just have to turn down settings.

Maybe a 295X2 would be a decent option for you?

Pretty much this. 144Hz is quite overkill for the most part tbh. It'll just cause your hardware to run a lot harder for let's face it, not an insane amount of extra responsiveness. Your main goal anyways in gaming for responsiveness? To have your minimum framerate not dip below 60fps during the important parts like shooting your gun in an FPS. THAT, is when your framerate tanks.

The AMD R9 295x2 is now a viable option yes. AMD recently put out a new driver that re-enables AMD Freesync on Crossfire setups like the multi-GPU 295x2.

BUT... multi-GPU cards or setups? It depends on what games you play... I would never recommend AMD Crossfire for anyone who plays World of Tanks as a prime example. Tbh? I'm amazed they even put in NVIDIA SLI lol. But maybe that's because NVIDIA sponsored a few tournament and prizes with then where-as AMD have not shown any interest in WoT afaik...

970 G1 or reference would do you fine.

I don't know much about AMD cards, but the 390/X would probably work well too.

Yes a 970 is good, but it is not as good as the 390x, or maybe wait for the r9 nano, which will be better than all of them and will use less power :)
