Segate 6TB (STBD 6000100)

lornetc

Does anyone on here have one of these and is experiencing momentary system lags / stutters? Its almost as if the drive is going to sleep and then spinning back up again right away, meanwhile it causes a hang / system wide lag even when I'M not actively using the drive.

probably on the brink of death, back up what you have on it and get a new one

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I normally would think that as well, but its done this since day one installing it in my system, and the drive is practically brand new -- partially DOA maybe? It doesn't seem to have ANY issues reading or writing and when Im actually actively using the drive this doesn't _seem_ to happen although im not sure.

Well, my first 3TB Seagate was fine for first 8 days and just when I was finished with loading it with info got something like 27 000 bad sectors under a day. So I hurried up to make use of my warranty.

The funny thing was that in the first 6 days the drive was ok, and I know because I watched it almost through every few hours.

Then I stopped because I was sure the drive is ok. Until 2 days later when hdd Sentinel app screamed about its near dead state.+

Here, I found one of the screenshots.

I got my replacement week after and the new one is working normally for the last months. :)

So just follow the advice from Fooshi. ;)

Well im going to run the diagnostic scans and see if it turns anything up. The thing is, there aren't any read issues and no data loss either. I did notice that in seatools info it says mandatory power management is enabled, can anyone confirm if it *could* be power management? Luckily if it dies its no great loss, its my archive/download/steam library drive, and all of that stuff is replaceable.

Just make sure this thing is set on "Never" (select 0 to make it so)

Otherwise it will do some bad stuff to the disk.

Yep I already knew about the windows settings, but I heard somewhere that there were power management settings hidden in firmware that couldn't be changed.

Update: I ran the short and the extended tests and it shows up all passing. I guess its just being weird.
