I just bought a Logitech G930, sounds decent for $71.99 from Newegg. Not sure if it's still on sale.

EDIT: I just checked, it's still on sale.

Suggestion for good headset = wired headset.

Since your suggesting for a wireless headset and your budget is a holy $300,

These are the main popular ones out there:

Astro A50 and Steelseries Wireless H headsets.

I personally owned the Astro A50 as the leather earcups for the steelseries is quite painful to your ears if your wearing spectacles, I chose the A50 as the earcups are felt cushion based.

Though I must say that the A50 doesn't have a very satisfactory noise isolation compared to steelseries because of the different earcup materials, the audio is fantastic regardless of games, music or movies.

Of course the above is just my opinion xD

What you need OP is a wired headset with an optional wireless feature.

What he needs is a wired pair of HEADPHONES with a ModMic.  No Astros *cough @LexenZ cough*

This is USB and its designed for PC as well. I have one and it really is awesome. The mic is exceptional, the sound is truely amazing and it beats the kraken in every way.

Suggestion for life = all headsets are horrible, with a $300 budget, get good headphones and a separate mic.

That looks like the most overpriced audio hardware I have ever seen.

(besides beats)

EDIT: It also has virtual surround, WHY??

Well it's to be paired alongside a console so the target consumer probably doesn't know much about value anyways xD #pcmasterracejokes

I had my eyes on the Steelseries Wireless H for a long time but if you would use the mic a lot.. it's probably not worth it as the mic is shit in my personal opinion.

Looks can be deceiving and virtual surround sound is a really nice feature that makes it really feel like you are in the game. You can turn it off if you want to (there is a button on the side). I have it from my console days and it really is a nice over-the-ear headset for its price point. It is definitely has better better reviews than the Razer Kraken Pro which is near its price range. By the way, it's quite rude to trash on products you haven't used before.

I have it from my console days and I just want to make clear that I am completely converted to the #pcmasterrace, but that really has nothing to do with the quality of the headset. Yes, it is built for consoles, and yes it does work for PC. I am only making a reccomendation based on my experience with the product first hand. I think it has really good value based on others within it's price range that have horrible reviews. However I also think that their could be other options out there, but I can't speak for them. I'm not forcing him to buy it, I am just making a suggestion. Sometimes people have to remember that.

Virtual Surround gives you no advantage at ALL compared to a good stereo headset. Also, all headsets that have it are "gaming" branded headsets that all sound like complete shit. Including your playstation headset that costs $100.
