• New exploit allows attackers take control of an android device remotely by sending them an MMS video

• With some messaging apps (Hangouts and some others), the user doesn’t even need to open the message for the attack to succeed

• In other apps, you just have to open it, even if you don’t view the media

• Switch to a messaging app that doesn’t do any preprocessing of the message and don’t open MMSes from unknown numbers

• All versions of Android affected, but Google released a patch to OEMs in June, and some manufacturers have pushed that to devices already

• Google claims that most devices use sandboxes, which make exploitation “more difficult”

• Researchers estimate that between 20 and 50% of devices will eventually be fixed (so lots won’t), compared to 85% iOS 8 adoption
