Computer freaks out when I plug my phone in

Okay, so this was happening to me before with a different cord but I didn't need it as much, but now I do, my computer FREAKS out whenever I plug my phone in, spazing between connected and disconnected, any tips? (I'm using a samsung note 4 and a alienware laptop)

*Update- The phone is also keeps switching between charging times of 3 hours and 47 minutes, makes me think that it keeps switching between 'charging mode' and 'sync mode'. I have also tried switching usb cables and ports*

That sounds like it's the cord, have you tried using another cord and seeing if the same issue occurs? Also have you tried a different port?

Hmmm interesting.

Have you tried different cables? Different USB connection settings (in the phone)?

Okay, so you could try this:

  • Install the Samsung software or re-install it if it's installed
  • Re-install USB drivers (you can do it simply in device manager)
  • Connect using Bluetooth
  • Research any app incompatibilities
  • In device manager, uninstall the driver software for your phone (you can do this by other means too)

Are you using a custom ROM? Because I experience this while on AOSP-based ROMs.
