Can't for the life of me get windows 10

So back when they made a windows 8.1 update to where you had the Windows logo in the bottom right corner on the taskbar to upgrade to windows 10. I never got it. It frustrated me so bad, but I wasn't worried because I thought when windows 10 came out I would automatically get the upgrade. I didn't..... Now when I check for updates on windows 8.1 it says "There was a problem checking for updates" So the only two ways that I know about to get windows 10 is not working. What do I do? I really want Windows 10. Thanks for the help in advance guys :)

download the iso and upgrade from a usb or dvd

Trust me I just did this and it worked.

Delete all the files in c>windows>softwaredistribution<downloads

Then run a cmd prompt and type wuauclt.exe/update now

Enter that then go into your control panel and search update and the windows 10 update will be there and your set !

dam.... it worked on my laptop but stupid me wanted a fresh install so I did a factory reset and it put me back to windows 8 so now I have to do all the normal updates and see if I can do it again -_-

Edit: crappy part is that it's 8 not 8.1 so I've got no clue what to do

you can do a clean install after you do the upgrade...

just burn the iso to a usb or dvd and do the clean install after you do the upgrade

but I was dumb and now I'm stuck with windows 8 not even 8.1

doing something wrong then

a file gets downloaded, i havent deleted the bt one only the software distro, i believe i followed the directions correctly. Also you been all over the fourms helping unlike Microsoft support, even if i have no luck, thanks.

no but when I go I to updated theres no updates at all, I'm going to do another rest tommorrow and try again, but hey that's what desktops are for, when you fuck up your laptop top you still got a desktop that's good and stable

I tried the thing above (Windows > Softwaredistribution > delete Download) with no luck. Windows 10 is fully downloaded and has been since the 28th. Windows Update says no new updates. What should I do next?

i had the same problem, restart after you delete it. Took 5 times to work for me. After than i think you need a installer from Microsoft and the iso, im not sure. Summon @techguru <smart guy, i believe he may be able to help.

5 times of restart, delete, or just restarting? I did restart one time. Will go delete and restart a few more times. @techguru come help please :P

whole process, last time there were 2 files i couldnt delete then it worked after i restarted and tried again, i don't have a clue what changed.
