Windows 10 is hardware dependent!

Shadow Gamer

So if you plan on upgrading your rig anytime soon, don't install Windows 10. It's hardware dependent, like windows 7, and unlike windows 8 and 8.1, which were hardware independent, meaning that there wouldn't be issues when switching components in your system.

Happy building,

Its also going to depend on the license type. Whether its OEM, retail, or system builder license.

Apparently other users did not know either. I google it a few days ago, but nothing came up. Fortunately, I upgraded my PC(The mobo and CPU) before I decided to download Windows 10.

It says you'll be able to reinstall. Windows 8 allowed me to install new hardware without any software changes, besides new drivers.

That is if you want to write notes i.e. a touchscreen, not that your windows license key is dependant on your hardware configuration.

EDIT: Made what I wrote clearer

Windows 10 will be the same, it only freaks out if you change the motherboard or something significant, which is the same as in Windows 8.

Honestly MS doesn't really give a hoot as long as the license is only being used on a single machine at a time. Sometimes activation freaks out but then you just call automated number and say the license is only being used on 1 computer then you enter an ID it gives you a new one back and all is good.

Changed the motherboard and CPU on my computer, didn't need to reinstall or even give my activation key again. Windows 10 is still up for grabs, so it's still activated.

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.
