High End Gaming Laptop: Alienware or Asus?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it to  a better forum mods.

I'm looking for a high end desktop replacement gaming laptop, and have searched every website that I saw.

The only two I saw that met the criteria I wanted was these two

Asus Republic of Gamers

Alienware

Not sure which one to go with, looking for previous owners of either ASUS ROG laptops or alienware laptops, with over a year of ownership.

They're both well within my budget; although the fact that Dell owns alienware is a major drawback.

PS

If you are suggesting a different laptop it must meet the following criteria:

Charging port on the side

Under 2k USD

250gb ssd +1tb 7200 rpm hdd

gtx 970

quad core i7

Large design with good cooling

16gb ram (preferrably 1866, no lower than 1600)

1080p 17" screen

Backlit keyboard

RoG Asus all the way

please.

just'

horrid build quality from Alienware

coming from an Ex Owner

and the fact that the specs on the RoG are better and its cheaper?

Better CPU (same GPU)  other then that same exact specs.

Edit:

you'll also get criticized from everyone with an Alienware. Happened to me. I won't be caught dead with anything other then MSI Asus or XPS 13 now.

Asus is a better made laptop overall. Alienware is loaded with bloatware and a bunch of crap you just don't need. I mean what can you expect, they're owned and manufactured by dell now who is notorious for making systems that don't last more than a year. Or well, any dell that has ever been in my family has never lasted over a year. So definitely Asus. I have an Asus laptop (not gaming) and it's amazing. Performance has decreased over the past two years I've had it and nothing has gone wrong with it at all. Asus is a great brand. But you should check out some other brands, or just check out custom sites such as http://www.cyberpowerpc.com . That's where I bought my gaming laptop from and it's absolutely amazing. I've only had it for about 7 months but still. It's never let me down and I don't expect it to let me down anytime soon. If you aren't interested in any of those though then go with the Asus. You will definitely regret having an Alienware.

its 30 bucks cheaper (whoopdie-fuckin-do), but durability is definitely important.  I think I'll go to best buy and compare alienware and asus chassis side by side when I get the chance.

My previous laptop was a cyberpowerpc and I retired it at the range.  That's how much I "loved" it.  Shittiest design I've ever put my hands on.

since when do bestbuys have Alienwares, not being sarcastic, just curious... I haven't seen one in like

the 20 different best buys I've been in. The plastic on the Alienware is hard plastic, extremely hard, one blow it will crack. Trust me that .1GHz will go a lot longer then you think it will and that 30 dollar difference, you shouldn't be saying that. 30 dollars goes a long way, a new game on steam ect ect, perhaps LTT contributor

I wish toshiba still had their qosmio lineup.  My second to last laptop was a qosmio and that thing was a beast; brought it overseas with me.  An IED cracked the mobo, and it still ran for another 9 months with occasional bsods and hard locks before the gpu finally took a shit.

Ahh, I understand where you're coming from with that. I'm not really picky about laptop design. I like the way mine is setup. It's thin and powerful and just what I need in a laptop that I use maybe once a week.  Just trust me, Alienware isn't worth it. I had an Alienware for about 5 months then I sold it because it just started crapping out on me. I've had numerous friends experience the same issues with Alienware and I have a friend that just spent $1500 on an Alienware and he's had it for like 3 months and the harddrive has crapped out on him and he's having to get that replaced now. Asus is the better brand, the chasis may be better on the Alienware but the performance from the Asus and just overall quality trumps the design of that chasis anyday.

So this machine, the Sager NP8672, is based on the Clevo P670SG. It has a 980M (4GB GDDR5), 3 cooling fans for efficient cooling, i7 mobile quad core CPU, and it is much slimmer than many machines out there but just as powerful and stays cool.

So if you were to leave the rest of the config as it is and change the RAM to 16GB, and the M.2 OS SSD to the 256GB Samsung SM951 PCIe SSD, your total should come in at 1989 USD.

The charging port is on the rear; that's a dealbreaker.

Why would that be a dealbreaker?

I use it in bed sometimes so the cord gets yanked to the side; if the ports on the side not a big deal but if its on the rear then it wears out the port rather quickly

See that's why I like tom's more lol

Except for the charging port... a Clevo P770ZM should suit you I think. In fact, it's the best choice for performance laptops right now.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Never even heard of clevo... link please?

Also I'm actually going to have enough for a desktop and a laptop at the same time, so I'm dropping my laptop budget down a few hundred and splurging on a desktop a lil more.  Not sure how much, but prob still goin ROG.

It is this, but actually this is the P770ZM-G because this has G-Sync. Clevo is a Taiwanese company which makes laptop barebones for many companies around the world, including Sager, Eurocom. Companies like Sager and Eurocom takes the Clevo barebones and resells them under a different name to give you the impression that they are different from each other, but actually they are not.

What is the Reason to buy a Gaming Laptop in the first Place?

For this amount of Money you could build a Killer Desktop.

I'm not really looking for a barebones laptop anyway lol.  I like flashy shit.  I love that feeling when I take a laptop or desktop component out of the box and just about cream my pants.

While I was serving I had to have something portable.  Good luck hauling a full tower overseas.  Now, well its for when I travel in addition to my desktop.

The MSI GT72 2QD Dominator meets all your criteria if you choose the right configuration and MSI laptops are known for their good build quality. AND it has Gsync.

Except for the most important one (in my book anyway)

That youtube video, though.  I lolled so hard.
