HDD problems

TBBZ8X8

I am running a nas server off my raspberry pi 2 and I am using an internal hdd with a sata to usb data and power adapter (this one http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SuperSpeed-USB-SATA-Adapter/dp/B00C93JPNY/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1438310778&sr=1-15&keywords=usb+to+sata+adapter+cable) and it was working fine until a little after I got my third monitor. You see I have all of my stuff (computer, 3 monitors, router, modem, printer, and the nas) powered off of one power outlet so I didn't think its getting enough power, which is odd because everything else seems to be running fine so I thought it may be a heat issue but last time it did it, it was relatively cold. What the hdd is doing, is spinning way up and then going back to normal, and then spinning way up and then going back to normal, and over and over again. It only happens after I have had it running for a while and if I let it sit for 20 minutes and start it up its working. Any Ideas on whats going on?

I believe this topic can well help you out when it comes to connecting drives to the Raspberry Pi: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=22097

Does it work fine when you unplug your third monitor? It may be possible that the drive is not getting enough power (though getting some) and cannot fully spin up in order to be read properly and recognized. What drive are you using?

I figured it out, the power cable wasn't enough to support the drive.
