Ever thought that you are spending way too much on tech products that has a degrading value overtime?

Tech_Dreamer

Just wanted hear what you thought about this whole thing, it's been like a hungry industry for the last few years, feel like you need to spend more & more each time to keep up with the advances & hype surrounding it, prices may seem like it's getting to a fair point but still they're guarenteed to be making more money this way , it's a vicious cycle especially on mid/entry level products, What are your thoughts on this?

Details separate people.

Nope. If you want the latest and best you have to be prepared to pay for it.

That''s why I buy apple products sometimes, they are so easy to sell and keep their value well.

Not really. I mean, as chilling said, if you want the latest and greatest you aren't going to get it cheap.

I mean, I'd rather go out and buy the latest and greatest tech than go out and buy a brand new car which looses a huge chunk of its value instantly.

Cheaper than modifying cars LOL

Personally as long as I get significant use out of something then I'm cool with the cost... probably why I mull over purchases for so long.

sure I noticed but thats just how it is. IT is my main hobby and fulltimejob so I pump in all the spare money I have :D

and with high goals like a 6770K and 980Ti you gotta pay a high amount. although things could be a little cheaper here in germany..

it is quite sad when you want to upgrade after 1-2 years and sell the "old" stuff and suddenly last years high-end stuff is worth as much as office PC hardware at the time..

Yes, I won't change anything though. Keep throwing disposable tech at me and I'll eat it right up just like the mindless consumer I am.

Na I'm too broke to buy the latest tech all the time. If I want some tech I might buy it but never the top of the line, like my Kindle is just the cheapest model. I usually only replace things if they're broken or breaking as well.

The depreciation has always gotten to me, I paid $750 CAD a piece for my 290x's, price dropped a few months later with the launch of the 980 and 970, so they were $600 and now they sit at $500, which is still pricey given you can have an 8GB 290x for about a hundred bucks less still, so I definitely couldn't get away with getting rid of them for more than 300, 350 at a stretch.

I don't have any regrets though, I know how this sort of thing works, it's kind of like how the value on a BMW, Audi or Merc will drop like a rock whenever they redesign the car, the new stuff just makes the old stuff look like crap, especially with high end things.

Its still very cheap if you aren't upgrading whole rig at once. And don't go for highest end all of the time. Plus its cheaper than some other hobbies. Like hockey, local/national soccer, buying and having normal car, clothing...

My thoughts are that anything that is useful will loose value over time. Some things do that even more than pc hardware, cars can loose thousands in value in just a few years. Overall it's not that expensive all things considered.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

no, I buy used, and sell used. my computer is for sale the second I get it.

I went from a I5+hd6670 to dual 7970s while making 50$ by flipping graphics cards. so that rig, bought a new rig, made 400ish there, then selling this rig for 200$ more then I paid in parts. plan on buying another used PC that took a big hit value wise, then could flip that easily.

Every time I make a car payment I'm sure that I am spending way too much on a tech product that has a degrading value overtime.
