Worth the upgrade?

Go to solution Solved by arvark,

Buy a 3770k at max. If you really wanna buy Z97, don't, wait for Skylake, and the 5820k is on X99/2011-v3 platform, not Z97/1150.

Hi!

I would appreciate your opinion on my future system upgrade from :

Asus ROG Maximus V Gene and i5 3570K

to:

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or maybe MSI Z97 MPower and i7 4790K or i7 5820K

Thanks!

Oh yeah, that would be a great solution, completely forgot about Skylake. In that case I must use X99 mobo?

No. You'll have to use the Z170 mobos which are not released yet. Here's a list of the CPUs you could upgrade to and their chipset/socket

i7 4790k: 1150/Z97

i7 5820k: 2011/X99

i7 6700k (Skylake): 1151/Z170

i7 3770k: 1155/Z77

I suggest you to buy the 3770k, but if you really want to change platform, wait for skylake or pick the 5820k,  picking the 4790k is not worth it.

Not faster at stock. But maybe they will OC better. Picking a 3770k is a good idea too. For 5820k you need new mobo + ddr4 ram
