I don't see my HDD after installing Windows 10.

PirateCoffee

I've got a 1TB HDD that my games etc go on but I cannot find the drive.

Disk Management doesn't show that there's another drive connected.

I know it was working before I installed Windows 10. I disconnected the sata data when the computer was shut down and then I ran Windows 10 setup, I plug it back it in and the drive can't be found.

The computer was offline when I plugged in the SATA cord.

I've restarted it too but nothing helps.

have you looked in the bios ?

Can't get into the bios.

Fastboot is on so I have absolutely no idea what key combination I use to access the damn bios.

Hey PirateCoffee,

Is the drive recognized properly or at all in BIOS (keep pressing Delete during the cold-booting process or check the manual of your motherboard) and device manager? If not, try using a different cable on a different SATA port. It would also be useful to connect the drive internally or externally (via a SATA to USB cable, docking station or a simple enclosure) to another computer and see if it gets recognized there. What is the drive's brand and model?

On windows 8.1 if you hold down shift while clicking Restart it took you into a recovery menu. An EFI Firmware option is there inside one of the menus, which reboots your computer into the UEFI. I don't know if this works with Windows 10.

Well I have an unusable computer. I unplugged my SSD as I was trying to get to the BIOS. Now says no boot device found (I assume BIOS boot order broke)

I need a USB Keyboard to access the BIOS and I don't have one. Well, my day is ruined.

EDIT: Unplugging the storage drive allowed me to boot into windows, the boot order is messed up.
