Power supply woes.

Go to solution Solved by Lolbroccoli,

1000w should be more than good enough for a single card setup

Edit:MORE THAN ENOUGH (ie:~600w is good enough)

I'm planning on getting a I7 4790k, water-cooled. A gtx 980 EVGA. SC. I'm planning on overclocking both, and depending on how my I7 likes a OC; of around 15% so 4.5 ghz. Also planning on putting on a OC on the 980, to reach around 1.5ghz (From its boot of 1357..?). I checked a calculator, and it told me 870 watts, but It didn't allow me to put a OC on the GTX 980. Also i'm getting 1 + 2 TB WD black HDD, and a 500gb Crucial mx200 SSD. Should I get a 1000w, or a 1200w to be safe? (I can handle a few more dollars on the power bill ;D) Or is that a bit overkill? Like I said, any help would be greatly obliged. I'm not an idiot about computers, but I'd rather not fuck-up a 2800$ (Its in CAD$) PC.

EDIT: I looked deeper and found that is says "Minimum power requirements of 500w. Although, that doesn't answer my question, it does help shed some light on a 1000 or 1200w power supply.

You can handle 3 980's on 1000W...

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

Thanks for the help. :D

EDIT: Going with a 850 watt Power-supply. I'm 92% sure that'll be more then enough.

You've got to be kidding me..

OP, you can run that system on 600W with plenty of power to spare..

4790K and 980 would run fine even on a 550w too xD.

some sites give pretty nonsense psu recommendations too, like that one i was on that recommended a 800w for an i7 and 7970 O_o.

get something like a XTR or V650 and you will be good to go :).

I don't mean to be rude, but this really doesn't deserve Best Answer...

800W would allow you to add a second 980, and you can run a 980 and such components with under 600Ws.

Thanks for the help. :D

I totally agree, I probably should have capitalized and bolded MORE THAN ENOUGH
