Sorry, another "Windows 10" question, please help though

So I am running windows 7 Home Premium right now 64x and I want to do a clean install of widows 10. I already reserved and everything, but according to everyone, everyone says to upgrade first and then do the clean install. So I want to ask, if I download the clean install windows 10 to my usb right now and don't do the upgrade and just directly go for the clean install, what will happen? What do i put in for the serial key? Do i enter my windows 7 key?

Thanks guys, I know this has probably been asked a million times already

You won't have a Windows 10 key until you do the upgrade. That means you'll be unable to authenticate your install. Upgrade first, retrieve your key, then do a fresh install.

No clue what will happen.

You would enter your windows 7 key.

Imo just do the in-place upgrade then use window's reinstall tool, doesn't require any flash drives or anything.

Doesn't it give you the option for a clean install when you do the upgrade (which shouldn't require your key to be entered)?

So once i've done the upgrade, I can download that fresh install tool, install windows 10 on a different drive (a new ssd) and my serial key will be fine?

From what I've read, your key you receive is tied to your motherboard, so as long as the drive is attached to that machine, it should be fine.

Not as far as I'm aware. it seems that Windows 10 upgrading functions similar to an OEM install of Windows 7.
