Confused about which GPU to buy ?

blabla21

Okay guys, im having trouble finding which GPU to buy,so here is my problem.

Im having a very hard time deciding which GPU to buy in my country.

Now since I dont live in USA and if i did I would have already bought myself GTX 980 Ti, but unfortunately since i live in Europe here the VAT is 20% of US price tag + local country tax, and GPU are seriously overpriced.

Now I have 4 choices on what GPU I want to buy:

- R9 290 (X), the cheapest one here is Asus which is 326 Euro (343 Euro)

-R9 390 (X), the cheaperst one here is Gigabyte which is 388 Euro (Powercolor 497 Euro)

- GTX 980, the cheapest one here is Palit which is 564 Euro (663$)

- GTX 980 Ti and R9 Fury X, the bane of my wallet, the cheapest ones are 700 euros ( for reference GTX 980 Ti) 720 Euros for Fury X and 730 Euros for cheapest non reference GTX 980 Ti which is MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming

So as you can see the prices are clearly ripping the money out of my pocket because of how much they are, and while I have the money to buy either one of them I really dont want to feel like im being ripped off even though that is how market here works.

I have also another list of things which will hopefully help you guys determine which GPU I should buy, as to see what is better for me.

1) I just bought Asus MG279Q monitor, im aiming towards 1440p gameplay.(I did not buy this monitor for its Freesync feature)

2) I play a a little modern games but I always play them atleast once, (Witcher 3, Batman AK etc...), but when I do i would rather like to max them out.

3) The games I currently mostly play are not so much demanding and but I would like to play them at 4K VSR, DSR:

-WoW
-Starcraft 2
-Diablo
-Skyrim
-MK X

and some others too.

The game I will be most looking for to play is The Witcher 3 and some of new games I will get which are:

MGS V The Phantom Pain

Sword Coast Legends

Heroes of Might and Magic VII

Mafia III

Hopefully i have given you guys enough info to make your decision, this is really confusing for me since I have never been buying PC components for so much money, and I dont know which one is more worth it than the other.
If you have any questions for anything else, let me know, thanks.

for what you play, if you're only playing at 1440p i'd suggest 980. not the 980 Ti.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

700€ isn't that bad(especially compared to price of 980), check for ACX 2.0 one, they are usually not very expensive and better than reference ones.

if you wanna (almost) max out witcher at 1440p 60fps youre gonna need a 980 ti. I wouldnt reccomend the 980 since 40-70€ to the 980 ti is a "small price difference" for the performance gains. for light 1440p gaming i would do the r9 290x

Im willing to play The Witcher 3 with HW off and AA off, If anyone wonders , because at 1440p AA is not necessary.

even than youre gonna need a 980ti. Witcher 3 is a very demanding game. And also if you buy an r9 290x, dont buy the asus one (very complains). Buy saphire or gigabyte...

If you got the freesync monitor I would get an AMD card atleast. No tearing is going to make a difference. Plus you payed the price premium, why not take advantage of it

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

go for 980ti if you can max out your budget. but for the ones you picked i think 980 would be the best but if you are into modding 8gb of vram would be useful :)

I can buy GTX 980 Ti its just the problem is that i am wondering is it worth it to give that much for those GPU's because iI can buy them, I just dont want to see GTX 980 Ti performance on a 1060 Pascal GPU (equivalent of GTX 960).

There is always something at the Horizon. If you always wait for the next better, you will buy nothing.
