Can A Locked Motherboard Overclock A Graphics Card?

Hi there,

I have a desktop pc with a gigabyte H61M-S2PV. It is a locked motherboard. I'm planning to get a GTX 970 soon. Can I overclock that 970 on this motherboard? Or should I change this one. Please kindly include the model number of the motherboard if I need to change my existing one.

TIA.

Yeah man you can like take a clock and tape it over the GPU and overvolt the motor so the second hand goes fucking mental

Yeah, graphics card overclocking has very little to do with the motherboard, as long as it functions properly, contrary to cpu overclocking where a good motherboard will allow you to overclock further. This is mostly because technically a graphics card is very similar to a motherboard with a cpu in it and a cooler attached, it has its own power delivery circuits / components, RAM (VRAM), the GPU itself and such.
