970 vs. 960 vs. 750ti

I'm looking for a card that will be able to max out my games at 1080p, 60fps. I mainly play smite and Counter Strike, nothing too demanding, but I really like to get the best visuals from my games. Would the 970 be overkill? Will the 750ti be too weak? Is the 970 really worth the extra 200$ over the 960 when just playing at 1080 60fps? For both the 970 and 960 I'm looking at the asus strix (I like how it runs silent and is oc out of the box) is that a good card or is there better within these catagories? Thanks for your imput!

TL;DR: 970/960/750ti which is best for 1080p @ 60fps?

you could probably get away just fine with a 960 for those games.

970 is the best card, but yes its overkill for CS:GO, id go with the 960 or you could get a 760

960 would be best. I personally would go with AMD at this price point, an R9-270 or 280 would be fine for these games and would be cheaper. But yeah, the 960 is best for these games.

1080p 60fps is the 960 the 970 does 1440p 60fps

The card I have now is usually 30fps but when my game gets too busy it drops to lower than 20. Will I experience this type of dropping or is 60fps more or less assured.

960 can manage, and 970 would slay. But 960 is a waste at this price point, and you'd be better off getting like a 280/380 at that price, so possible a 970, 290, or similar quality gpu.

960 is iffy for me, but 970 is practically assured( depending on the number of explosions happening), but like I said before, 960 is kinda pointless at this price point, and isn't worth it at all seeing how the 280/380 out does it at this price point. So it's 970/290/etc or nothing.

I would only consider AMD cards if you have a PSU with a minimum rating of 500 watts.  If you go with a 290 and above, go with a minimum of 650 watts.

I would personally just get a 750ti.  They're about $120.  If you can get the 960 for $170 after MIR get that.  Btw, I think the 960 comes with Batman.  A month ago the 750ti came with The Witcher 3.

Look out for those deals.

Well after looking the GTX 970 is a bit overkill since it can hit 45-50fps on 4K but its just a bit more than the GTX 960 at its price.

Go for the 960 if the price is 200dollar cheaper your not really gonna be playing any demanding title if so the 960 will still be good at performance and hit 60fps when settings turned off or lower like anti aliasing

$150 is more than a "bit" for most people.

Personally I'd get the 970. It may be a bit overkill for now, but more aggressive games will come out in the future, and it's kind of nice to have that cushion.

IMO This.

Look towards for future (a little bit) and get a GTX 970 if thats affordable.

Anyone who has a Nvidia card, usually tried out the downsampling features too, which is nice to have, but more reason to get a better GPU if its something your keen to use on some games, the 970 fares a LOT easier with it than the 960.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Assuming you have a CPU that can keep up, a GTX 960 will be able to play Smite at max settings at 1080P at around 100 FPS or higher (framerate will be lower in Conquest, higher in Arena or Joust).

Organized by performance, lowest to highest.

GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Radeon R9 270

Radeon R7 370

Radeon R9 280

GeForce GTX 960

Radeon R9 380

Go higher if you think you'll be branching out into other more demanding games, otherwise something around the GTX 750 Ti to GTX 960 range will do you fine.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

I currently have an intel i7 4700MQ (2.4Ghz), will this be a deciding factor between an 960 and 970?
