Why do game developers make their games simulate crappy cameras

Photonic

Chromatic aberration is something should never be seen in photos why simulate this ugly effect in games

Visual noise same something that's seen in crappy cameras

Lens Flare can be good sometimes if its used right to simulate extremely bright objects like then sun but can be ugly if you get all these artifacts all over your screen, this also applies to bloom

If games are designed to make you feel immersed shouldn't they simulate the human eye not a crappy camera

It really bugs me in GTA V in first person mode, why does it have to exist? Maybe they use it to hide rough edges? Really don't know.

I agree on everything, but I think you're missing something key (emphasis mine)

damn. sniped as I was typing this by @Sakkura. Pretty much yeah. It's to be more "cinematic" and to be more like you're in a movie theater with big choreographed scenes. And chromatic aberration, from my understanding, is not limited to just crappy cameras. https://photographylife.com/what-is-chromatic-aberration

It's just the newest fad in game development that will (hopefully) pass. It's the same thing with games getting dirt/water/blood on the camera, at first it was obnoxious and now it's tasteful to most people (still would like the option to turn off, but I'll take victories no matter how small). Bloom, lens flare, motion blurring, and the like are all things that are carried over from film and movies that should be a slider with how much you want in a game (ofc with the option to turn off too).

That's one of my main problems with the Crew."Oh the graphics look really crap but that's OK BECAUSE GUESS WHAT!?!?! We've spent all our money covering the screen with crap instead of making it look less like everything was modelled in MS paint!

Because it's become a fad. As others have said many companies are pressed to go for that cinematic look, rather than the realistic look, and this is the result.

It's a lazy way to make it "feel" more realistic to many people.

Knowledge is power, guard it well.

It's very damaging. Basically we are taking up GPU resources to make the image look more muddy... go figure. It's a trend that needs to die.

The mod community is also very guilty of this.

You're absolutely right. They use it to make your brain think it's a video, and those effects will make your brain focus less on the textures and shadows and so on, which are much harder to render.
