A "Don't forget your roots" rant.

kenblu24

I hate to say it, but the Youtube comments have a point: Stop begging for likes and stop shifting focus away from reviews.

I much prefer the old "Like this video if you liked it, dislike it if you disliked it, leave a comment... etc etc etc." compared to the new "like for this pls." especially before the video has even begun. It's not professional. Speaking of not professional, whoever is the "meme-master" at LMG, please. PLEASE. Stop doing that shit in reviews. You guys produce two different types of content: Professional reviews catering towards a general audience, and videos targeted towards people in the "ltt community." Keep the reviews professional.  Please. Please for gods sake do not mix the styles. Please. Keep reviews and jokey videos separated. Reviews should never be targeted towards our own little community. The target audience for those is people finding your videos off google. Not your subscribers.

Also, people seem to hate "overview" videos. You just go over the product. People can read specs of a spec sheet. At least announce the intention to review the product if you make an overview video.

I don't usually say this, but please. Read some of the YT comments here.

You guys just decided to make a video without purpose. I don't want to see this thing happen again. It's the first time I've actually cringed at an LMG video.

You guys aren't stupid, so I kept this pretty short. Just don't forget what you do and do it right. Don't get too comfy. That's what happened to Digg and Reddit.

Oh, and no offense to Luke, but Linus is definitely better than him at judging what's tasteful and what isn't.

It's berkel doing the MLG stuff.

All dead memes anyways

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

The global response to people who only have negative things to say about a channel and its growth and its change -

"No one said you have to watch it in the first place" - Swndldndl 2K15

If "professional content" is what you want, then go look for it, the internet is not hard to use by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah it's to generic to ask for likes to do this. It should be you do it because of the likes (that you haven't asked for a specific reason)

http://myanimelist.net/animelist/VLRose I like anime, I'm missing at least 50 off this list.

I guess LMG is a mix of childish and professional.

I watch Jay n Hardware Canucks for professionalism.

I watch LTT for both the humor (not those gay MLG memes, those were dead so long ago) and the semi-professionalism, because it fits with my style as an individual.

they are running out of things to review. Remember where there was a dry spell of stuff and linus just started reviewing random things such as jackets and backpacks?

yeah..

Hell yeah I remember that.

The only videos they can really do during the tech dry spells are concept videos like "does having a certain amount of ram make your pc go faster" except much more creative and not utter trash like my example.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

The thing that bugs me the most is when they say 'like for this' and we all know they have already done it (it was worse when they first started it as the video was often on vessel).

If you think that LinusTechTips is the only tech review channel that does this, you are seriously naive. If you want one that actually ONLY does professional reviews with no fun stuff or shenanigans, they're out there. but LinusTechTips is the largest of them for a reason.

The memes are what make LMG, well, LMG. If you are watching LTT for 100% professional content, go somewhere else. While LTT is professional in a lot of aspects, the jokey parts are why I love it. :)

It's been heavy handed with the meme overload lately. It was funny seeing it a couple times but now I expect it.

I agree with what you said but I think the jokey part should end to the extend of the apple watch "review"... When he talk about the unsatisfactory sex that you receive while being in the bottom and not being able to check the time because it would alert the person on top that you don't like it... I was hoping to show that review to a few people I know but just because of that now I don't feel comfortable showing it to most people because I don't know of how they will respond to that...if that wasn't included I would have appreciated the video a lot more

You know I was going to say the exact same thing, but thought I would get shot down. I absolutely hate the "like this video to see us do a review of th-" NO PLS.

I'll either LIKE or DISLIKE the video because I LIKE or DISLIKE the video. Seems like a really cheap way to get arbitrary "likes" on YouTube videos.

Has there even been a situation where they DONT release the new video they're already talking about anyway? You know they must have the thing already shot and at least somewhere in the edit pipeline.

Seems really cheap. Personally I wish they'd go back to unboxings, raw, unedited, no additional FX or memes, just unboxings with Linus' raw opinions. I'd rather see Linus rant about packing foam for 2 minutes than watch some of these new short reviews where 1/4 of the video is a sponsor spot.

I've also got this OCD about video format now that's relevant to the ComputeStick video, they should either go all the way or not at all. Have sections of the video dedicated to: specs, benchmarking & testing, our impression, wrap up. You can still throw in dumb hit markers and airhorns or whatever, but when some videos go into huge detail with specs & benchmarking, and others (like this one) are just completely lacking, it doesn't give off the "well we're an indie channel, we're a mix of pro and goofball" it just seems really sloppy imo.

LMG will be what they want to be, not because people tell them how they should be. If you like their content, you like it. If you don't, then you have the choice to move on.

I just ignore all the "like/dislike" stuff and watch the videos for the actual product review content, since that's the main reason I'm watching it. There are far more important things in life to be concerned about than waste time whining and complaining about what a youtuber is doing in their videos, IMO.

I for one appreciate the playful approach to things that LMG takes.
If I were to work for a company I'd want that company to be like LMG or Google.

+1 I certainly like the playful memes and jokes thrown in, but that part of the Apple watch review took it a little far IMO.

Most of the other memes, I don't think twice about. Neither with the like/dislike. I simply always try to abide by the phrase, You can't complain about free entertainment.

How about this. I don't like them asking for likes, so I just don't like any video. Even if I liked it by any uploader I don't like it.

I think people don't realize they get "reviewers guides" they have to go over in their video. Ever wondered why all the reviewers go over the same laundry list of crap? Because they have to play nice or they get blackballed.
