Realtek HD Audio won't allow audio programs to record with my microphone

When installing my MSI drivers for the computer I built recently, it installed Realtek HD Audio for the mobo's soundcard. Whenever I plug in my microphone, an interface pops up saying that it recognized that I plugged it in. However, whenever I try to record with another program, I can't find any input option (i.e. something like "Realtek HD Input"). I normally use Audacity to record voice, but I even tried FL Studio and I couldn't find an option for a microphone input.

The other day, somehow it worked, but I really have no clue what happened to make it work that time. 90% of the time that I try to use my microphone on the computer, Audacity can't find the microphone as an audio device.

I know for a fact that the microphone DOES work. It exports an analog signal into a 35mm standard audio jack.

Sorry for the lack of details, but I don't know where to look. Can you try to help point me in the right direction of what to do?

Thanks.
