Sony: 1080p 60fps Makes A Huge Difference

TwistedDictator

I dont own the PS4/Xbox one yet, but I do have a 360 and PS4

Those steam games are like 11 years worth, which if you work it out is not that much a month

https://steamdb.info/calculator/76561197968752013/?cc=uk

According to that link its £5116 or £1302 with sales

So thats £38 a month on games or £9.86 with sales

11 years? Dude that means you've been using steam since it was utter shit with the HL2 launch and such, kudos on that I didn't predict it would become a viable product back then.

Yeah HL2 FTW, I didn't consider viability back then because I was 14

Honestly never had a single complaint about steam, i'm either too ignorant, or just not effected enough to care

I would go with 30FPS over 60FPS and crappy graphics unless atheistic are pleasing.

I would never play a game at under 40 FPS. Being on PC and being able to choose what is acceptable to you is nice.

And 24 FPS is way more cinematic! Just keep digging :P

If you pay for them, they're not really free you know?

Context you ever heard of that ?

You only have to pay for PSN if you want to use PSN -- a PS4 is still functional without PSN (just no access to online games).

Except for some games like destiny play online with no PSN+.

I'm with you, I would rather play on a lower resolution to get 60 FPS than 1080 30 FPS.

But being part of the PC master race (and a 980 on a 1080 monitor) I don't really have to pick and choose ;)

Uh-huh. Of course it makes a difference now when they're releasing a 1080/60 game. It wasn't very important earlier this yeah though when the Order was coming out. In fact Sony allowed Ready at Dawn to make huge bullshit statements all the way up to the launch of that failure of a game.

Time to upgrade :D

I need a ps4 for uncharted 4...(and bloodborne and like 2 or 3 others)

Ubisoft cant see, they are still in a deep hole

Haha!  I'm in the same situation.  I got Bloodborne but no PS4 (hey... it was on sale!!!)

And yes, it's about time the consoles get on this 60 FPS train.

Well lol that at this modern time this has been said which was so obvious. Let's hope that it doesn't make crap ports and whatnot.

1080p60fps should be bare minimum for anything today. And I also mean maxing the video settings on optimized game.

I just can't wait when single gpu card comes that will drive 4K 144Hz which will be a breeze to run and be smooth without any drops.

If the option is there, I doubt you will choose choppy gameplay over smooth gameplay.

I hope that it won't become trend on consoles. 720p & 30hz is the way to go . We'll move forward a bit in graphics - both PC and console users .

720p 30FPS is not the way to go, we are not in 2005 anymore, hell, there were PS2 games that ran at 60FPS.

I'm pretty surprised by how many of you guys are being suckered by this news. PS4 and Xbone are weak sauce. To get 60fps @ 1080p they'll have to reduce gfx.

It doesn't work like that. As games get more and more demanding. it takes stronger and more powerful gfx cards to run them, even at the same resolution.

(also higher FPS seem to be more CPU limited?)

Yep I know , but majority console users don't see the difference - so why bother? You have much more processing power for better graphics that is easier to advertise than 60hz.

Same goes for 720p. Yeah, 1:1 pixel mapping is the best , but if they can't tell the difference - why bother?

I know all of that.

Since high resolution, thus good amount of pixel density is awesome so you don't see them and high refresh rate just makes it more fluid and gives you better feel of motion. Games should be made in mind that it can be higher refresh rate driven and base graphics on that. But lately most games are running at low fps while also not looking that amazing. I don't want in like 5y to see a game be between 20-40fps maxed out with high end hardware. That just sucks of majority of them would be like that. I can understand games like Crysis when it was in it's time, those are exceptions that truly go next gen and all.

Devs for new Doom explained it very well how it actually makes a ton of difference in terms of gameplay experience to have 60+ refresh rate.

We just need a bigger leap in performance to push 4K 144fps and make that a standard. That would be a great point where we no longer can see pixels just like that and have that high refresh rate at the same time to make everything flow. I can't imagine when we are going to see a single GPU be able to push next gen title at 4K 144fps with max detail, but when that comes it will be amazing.

A side, there will be people ow look I get 12fps at 8K and stuff like that.

And no, higher FPS isn't necessary CPU limited.

Oh, console gamers can tell the difference, but they don't want to admit that 60FPS looks way smoother :P.

My friends, who have played on console for the most part of their life can tell the difference between 30 and 60FPS and 720p and 1080p.

higher fps at a lower resolution is always preferable to a crisp, headache-inducing slideshow. nice to see them shooting for both standard resolution and fps in a serious manner.

You don't get it done you ? 30 FPS is perfectly smooth for me, it isn't as smooth as 60 FPS but it's still fine.
