Custom Shoulder Rig

Hi Guys,

I want a shoulder rig, but all of the ones i like are very expensive. So i had a thought, If its just 15mm rails, and clamps, surely i can buy parts and make a custom one...

Problem is, i dont know where to look, im looking on ebay at the moment.. But i dont know what the tripod mount plate is called? I found grips, and a shoulder pad, but im trying to think what else i need. of course i need the actual rails. and im guessing clamps... i wish i could draw it or something but my drawing skills are terrible, and it wont be 3d...  and i have no idea how to use 3d software like cinema4d or sketchup or blender.

Also, how do i keep the rig steady and use a follow focus? ill only have one hand on the rig... that wont be stable... Help please?

Do you know of any sites where i can just design a rig, and they will tell me what i need? or something like that... someone should make that!

Thanks

Gershy13

I thought you were after ideas and ways to figure out what parts you needed and they ship worldwide if you do need to purchase.

they have a very wide selection from beginner's gear to high end professional gear and the great thing is they normally show and sell all the accessories available for these same items. Keep in mind a lot of the items may be made in your area and you may have a much cheaper outlet for them but this would help you find the style you like and possibly a

brand from your own area. Good Luck

when you are using one hand to push the rig  firmly into your shoulder, it does become very stable, leaving the other hand free to use the follow focus etc

ohh ok, i imagined it wouldnt be very stable having only one hand on a fairly heavy rig...

hmmm i think the neewer one is a better deal... it includes a matte box, and has a real shoulder thing for £90

I didn't realise that included the follow focus, so thats good

The shoulder on mine works fine, was using it yesterday, I dont use a matte box though so I doubt I would ever need it :D

But yeah either seem a good deal

I don't really see the point, it will turn out exactly the same as these, which you can change and modify due to the standard parts

its cheaper to get these than buy all the rods separately, and just order stuff as you see fit

then again, I have used my rig a total of two times, for about an hour in total so far, I guess I just dont need it that much, going to save up for a pilotfly h1+
