[Review] EVGA 850w G2 Powersupply

Hi Everyone

Before i get into the review i wanna give you guys a little bit of background with my PC and setup , so basically my PC is sat right next to me on my desk , so as you can imagine a loud PC is also a pain in the back side , for nearly 18 months i have been trying to get my PC to be as quiet as possible , i bought new fans ( corsair af120's ) and i got a new case ( Be Quiet SB800 ) and a new CPU cooler to keep my very hot 8350 under control ( Noctua NHD-14 )

but after all that it was still really loud , as it turned out my old Corsair CX750m had MASSIVE coil whine , it was by far the loudest thing in my PC even in a gaming scenario with all my fans ramped up ,

It was really annoying and distracting

So i finally pulled the trigger and about 6 weeks ago i ordered my brand new EVGA 850w G2 Powersupply :D

Appearance

This powersupply is pleasing to look at , some days i take the side panel off my pc and just look at it (is that weird ? lol )

but in all serious-ness this powersupply is gorgeous , it has a very understated look , but that means it should fit with pretty much any build you can think off , because most builds have some black in them whether it be the case or motherboard or GPU(s) there is always some black

It has a textured painted finish which goes with pretty much anything as i said , if you mount it the way i did (fan down ) then you will have the warranty stickers on top of the powersupply which sorta ruin the look , but you could peel them off if you really wanted to but it would void your warranty

The Cables are really nice as well , all the cables are made up of completely black wires , none of the rainbow of cheaper powersupplys , they also have a nice sleeving over tham aswell which helps with making teh cables look nice and clean

Installation

So the installations was as easy as every other powersupply ever made lol

but what i do want to point out is the cables , they are so easy to work with , fully modular and really easy to bend around corners and route where you want

especially the 24 pin connector , i remember my CX one being very stiff and putting alot of pressure on my motherboard when i first intalled it

as i said its as easy to install as every powersupply :)

Value

I am a self confessed cheap skate :D

all the parts in my PC i have had deals on of some sort , so when i was searching for a powersupply i was looking for a good balance between price and performance

and the G2 falls right in at a bargain , right now it is on amazon UK for £99.99 , which , in my mind atleast , is a bargain for what you get

you get a gold rated 850w powersuply that is really quiet and pretty efficient for £100 , you cant find a better PSU for cheaper unless you got it on sale or with a promo or something

if 850w's is overkill for your PC or you dont quite have £100 to spend the 750w g2 is £89 on amazon UK aswell , and the 650w variant is £75 :)

and one more really amazing thing , if you register it on the EVGA website you get a 10 YEAR WARRANTY!

Conclusion/My Thoughts

I love this powersupply , and it seems im not the only one

Alot of people recommended my this powersupply when i asked about what i should get , and rightly so

some people will say that they dont need an 850w PSU for their PC , hell i didnt need any where near 850w for my pc ( FX-8350 + Gtx970 )

but as history has proven , PC parts get more power hungry before they get more efficient , plus as i mentioned it has a 10 year warranty so this psu will last you a long time

I got it because at some point i will go SLi 970's and i want enough over head for heavy over clocking :)

The only thing that i dont like about it , and its only a very small point , is the the warrantly stickers are stuck right on the top and you cant remove them unless you want to void your warranty :/

But if you have £100 or $120(us) top spend on a PSU i highly recommend that you consider the 750/850w G2 powersupplys

Thanks for reading my review , if you have any questions then just ask and i will try to answer you as best i can :)

Thanks again :)
