What's the best format to copy DVD's in vlc?

Want to start digitizing or DVD's

Use cloning software, whichever you prefer

 

You want to rip your DVDs?

 

Use MakeMKV, I've had the most success with that.

Copying the files to your computer is technically infringing on copyright laws...

MakeMKV....

 

Also, Freemake works too and choose MP4 because it can be easily copied over the network but is lossy as fuck. If you convert a movie twice through MP4 it's practically unwatchable.

If there's a DRM, copying it is illegal.

 

You own the physical medium, technically you're leasing the content. You don't own what's on the disc itself.

It's not as long as you don't distribute it, you paid for it it's yours to do what you want with it. Personally though I wouldn't bother bringing your DVD's to digital just download or buy the blu-ray. DVD quality is long past it's day so it's not really worth it IMHO. At the end of the day if you own the DVD it's not so bad downloading the blu-ray because you've already payed for the film albeit in a poorer quality.

+1 for MakeMKV, after ripping use Handbrake if you want a smaller file size.

MakeMKV and Handbrake are an excellent combo. I used them to digitize my bluray collection and a few choice DVDs.
