Personal Rig Update 2015

Linus, are you going to have some kind of remote switch to turn it on or are you going to go into the server room and turn it on every day? A remote way to turn it on would be really cool.

Well, we've had wake-on-LAN since the late 90s, so surely he's figured something out. If he's even going to bother to turn it off.

I'm really interested to see how this turns out. I may be changing jobs soon and it will require me to take my work on the road, moving every 2-3 months. As my work is in audio, a lot of my gear is already rackmounted, so it would be beneficial to buy a nice sturdy flight case for my audio interface, preamps and a rackmount computer (maybe 8U?). That way nothing should get damaged during long drives and everything can stay permanently connected...

I would really like to know what the custom case has been quoted as and whether we will have any access to the sketchup plans. I know I could just buy a 4U computer case from anywhere, but having one specially made and designed to take watercooling would be a huge benefit!

Looking forward to part 3!

I look forward to this project being completed. I think it's a great idea and is something I've considered myself when I have my own place. I see the custom design and fabrication of cases becoming more cost friendly here in the coming years as we continue to refine and advance 3D printing. Eventually it will be something anyone can do.

Will there be an update on this soon? Could we see the sketchup files please?

Until I saw your video I never thought of building a rack mount PC.  It would also make dust filtration in a home environment easier to clean.

It'll take me a while to build but thanks for the motivation to do it!

I'm very curious to see how he uses the thunderbolt card to essentially port his guest pc's from the server. I was looking up longer optical and copper cables for thunderbolt 2.0, but they were super high priced. This sounds like a cool concept, and I would like to try something like this, but it doesn't make sense if it's going to cost more than building a second PC.

Where can I find the sketchup files for the build? I'm thinking of making this for myself but I'm thinking about making a few changes to it.
