NEW CUSTOM SOLID WOOD SOUND BAR BUILD LOG....

ok so this past week i got really fed up with the quality and loudness of the "5.1 surround" that i had for my pc. i personally believe that for ***MUSIC*** and most movies and games that a simple yet PROPERLY built 2.1 audio set up is just fine, and that there is NO need for these 1000watt plus surrounds and all that BS... so in this log i will be building a custom sound bar from solid maple wood... not maple veneer. this will be as close to an audiophile grade sound for about 150 bucks.

this sound bar that i am currently in the process of drawing out will ONLY be using 2-4" dayton RS100-4 speakers and a 2ch 30watt amp from texas instruments (2ch x 15w each @4ohm).

i do plan to mount some leds are the bar so tune in to see shiny things. ill be uploading pics everyday.

Basicly just starting working on the front face of the bar to get the speakers fitting as well as the led lights

I like it so far!  :)

I do, however, question your decision to use a soundbar at a desk. They're normally meant for a living room type environment. For desktop use, it is more ideal to have two separate speakers so you can angle them inwards.

i wont have any issues with imaging like that because the phase plugs are angled in a way to redirect the sound. and with any good speaker, the reason you angle speakers towards you and up is usually to help with imaging (the ability for your mind to produce a 3D awarness from the sound). i custom built my desk to go in the corner so all the sound will be bounced off the walls and will HOPEFULLY help with the imaging and simulated surround.

Sounds like you know what you're doing then. I look forward to the results.

ok so i couldnt sleep in the last few hours so i did some work... sorry about the lighting, my garage has bad lighting and my phones flash just makes everything blurry.. but what i did it start getting some of the walls cut. i also glued my port stacks together and drilled out my aero ports, each side will have 2-.75" x 5" long areos giving me a tuning of 50hz. which i know is low for 4" speakers but i did some tests using an box i made from scrap wood and the speakers can easily play down into the high 20s and low 30s. so this sound bar will be VERY musical.

enjoy the pics.
