Less of a difference, just like there is less of a price difference.

 

Personally the 390 seems like a better bargain but the value of money is different for everyone else.

In my opinion, I think the 390 is the better deal. You gain maybe 3-5 FPS with the 390x on average at least as I've been seeing in benchmarks lately.

 

They both lie slightly at or above 970 performance in some games, and in the games where the 390 is behind the 970, the 390x only sits right around the 970 in those games( genrally gameworks enabled titles).

 

If you want to spend $100 more for 3-5 FPS, then go ahead, but at that point, i'd save up even more and just buy a 980Ti or a Fury and get even more significant improvement. If you want to max out nearly every game available right now at 60 or more FPS, the 390/x, and 970 will all do it fairly equally. Best bet is to go with whichever is cheapest or has other features
