My Take on a Console Killer [Mail-in Rebates are Required] [500$]

Lavish

Hey everyone, I see alot of people who dont have a huge budget but want to join the masterrace so heres a PC that runs in at about 500$ and will play most games at 60fps! I didnt include an OS because you can pick up a copy of windows 8.1 for very cheap from a 3rd party retailer. I did have to use mail in rebates to get to the point I wanted with this build but in my opinion its worth it. I hope you all enjoy :)

Place a i3 4160 and a h81 board and a better graphic card. The 750ti ain't killing anything.

Yeah, but a person with this budget will probably only play smaller titles and he can easily upgrade in the future a couple months down the line to a 780ti or a 960.

True but you can also upgrade the processor. So why not get a r9 280?

Consoles won't die, the only thing we can do is educate people on why to think about PC gaming first in a nice manner.

I guess the title is sort of misleading, but its the most commonly used reference to budget pcs :)

Yeah, its truly up to the builder, but that may be a stellar alternative :)

To be very blunt, I find these "$500 console killers" to be a load of bullshit.

Every one either goes over budget, doesn't include windows and/or has MIRs which are designed to be as annoying as possible to prevent you from cashing them in.

Just accept that these "$500 console killers" are actually $600~ and we can all move along to something else.

Truly a PC needs to be more in cost vs a console to truly out do it.

That still costs more than a console, so it's not exactly a "console killer".

for me a "console killer" is / or should cost less than the console price, should be smaller than the console itself and last it should play all games that is also console exclusive.

Except you can A, use Linux, B get a cheap copy of windows on G2A/reddit C use an existing copy of windows or D use windows 10 for free (and it will stay free too even after launch)

not all of them include MIRs too, its easy to do one under $500 without

so there is no such think as a "console killer" how can it be called a console killer if it can't play console exclusive game..

Because besides from 5-10 exclusive games, it can play everything else, including the entire back catalog (I need to keep my PS3, and PS2 for example), while being cheaper in the long run, no online sub costs, cheaper games, etc

It still beats a console, dont forget, to play all exclusives you need BOTH consoles, dont forget PC exclusives

how can it be cheaper if every new games requires new hardware to run every year on recommended specs. how can it be cheaper? $400 PC means you have to upgrade every year just to get the recommended specs plus the cost of buying the game.

No you don't have to upgrade every year, that is a very commmon misconception. a PC will last just as long as a console will playing games at the same level

A GTX 480 from 2010 still does great in games today!

here it is playing GTA 5 at 1080p better than a console

only if your hardware will last that long which is very very rare. Wow do you only need gpu to run that game? how about the other specs... let's see hmmm. i7 4770k ok, next DDR: 8 GB G.SKILL Sniper Series hmm ok,   next MB: ASRock Z87 Extreme 4 hmm. ok, next  SSD: San Disk Ultra 120GB hmm. ok next HDD: WD 3 TB | WD 500 GB | WD 250 GB next PSU: TT Black Widow 850 W CASE: Lian Li Pc A76WX. ok how much does it cost? how old is that cpu, mobo, ssd.

The very first i5's and even some of the Core 2 Quad's are still really capable processors not running too far behind modern day processors. The video showed how the 5 year old graphics card would do in a modern day system. That card would still perform great in an older system, because processors didn't get a whole lot faster, and GTA5 would run fine on even 4GB of RAM.

Hardware does last long, nothing just goes obsolete in the next year.

Asus B85M-G / Intel i5-4670 / Sapphire 290X Tri-X / 16GB RAM (Corsair Value 1x8GB + Crucial 2x4GB) @1333MHz / Coolermaster B600 (600W) / Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 / Adata SP900 128GB SSD & WD Green 2TB & SG Barracuda 1TB / Dell AT-101W / Logitech G502 / Acer G226HQL & X-Star DP2710LED

Plenty of hardware lasts that long, I have a pc from 2003 still working perfectly, my brothers laptop is from 2008, still runs great and he designs cars!

An i7 is 100% uncessary to run games, heck a pentium, i3 or low end i5 will do just as good a job, an SSD does not make games run better, you dont need an expensive case, or power supply

A core 2 duo/quad 1st gen i5 from years ago, with a $200 GPU will still run games really well, maybe in 5/6 years you spend $200 on a new GPU, to run AAA games at higher resolutions/framerates

Under my TV is a PS2, PS3 (soon a PS4), Xbox, Xbox 360 (soon a One too), an N64, an Atari, etc etc

But my PC.. can play games from 1980, i just turn it on, open the game, its 100% backwards compatible, doesnt cost me $60 a YEAR to run for online services, the games are cheaper especially in steam sales, G2A etc,

A $500 PC is achievable, and will play games perfectly fine for a long time

THE REASON my PC was so expensive, is because I invested that much money in it, I live 2 miles from work but I bought an £11000 Audi and  £2000 motorbike .. in 3 years ive done les than 10k miles... who cares its what I wanted to buy

Just like a £2000 pc is not needed, its a complete luxury
