Coomber- the Cassette Player PC

blu4

I'll build a system in this- a Coomber 392 cassette player. Would you like to see my struggle with this? I might even do a giveaway when I finish it... It will reuse the old style knobs and have a "side panel" window on the left. Why do this you might ask? Because xD

CPU- i3 2120

Motherboard: Intel DQ67EPB3 Q67 (Purchased)

GPU- 750ti LP

RAM- Adata 1333Mhz 8GB (2x4)

SSD- Sandisk128GB

PSU- Silverstone Strider 300W SFX

Edit:

To give you an idea on how small this thing is, a mini ITX motherboard will barely fit into it. I will have to put it in at an angle if it won't fit. BUT I WILL MAKE IT FIT!

Yes!
I am following, would love to see how it turns out :)

Most interested in how well the airflow will be and overall the temps

There is a 100mm cutout at the back where the speaker was- a fan will fit there perfectly :D

Umm... It has too many sides! xD

It would be great to type in the first post just to tell people how small this thing is.

If a mini ITX fits then I'll go ahead with the build, otherwise it's a waste of time since I don't want to cut it :/

Yeah, if it doesn't I wouldn't bother too.

Front plate, I might consider painting it in green but I like they old style text on it..

post-142207-0-11392900-1436346628_thumb.

The case has got a front plate that extends the whole unit by about 2-3cm. The whole unit is 32cm wide.

post-142207-0-20786600-1436346643_thumb.

There is space inside but not much, I hope that a mini ITX and a 300W SFX power supply fill fit. I did some measurements and the case should fit both.

post-142207-0-02022200-1436346659_thumb.

At the back, where the old speakers used to live, is a 100cm opening for an intake fan. As you can see, there is also a hole for carrying the thing, I was thinking of hacking that out and making a small exhaust or another intake? Since it is covered by the front plate it will be a sort of "blower" intake/exhaust.

post-142207-0-09017400-1436346678_thumb.

Since this is not a uniform shape, the deepest it will go with the front plate is 18cm~. I might have to get the motherboard at a slight angle to get the GPU in and the I/O to stick out front the back of it.

post-142207-0-81350900-1436346694_thumb.

As soon as I have the motherboard I'll post an update.

I hope you're gonna clean it first though ;')

WD40 should get rid of sticker left overs and for the rest you can probably use water and soap

Duck tape is better for getting old glue off the plastic :) For now I have to make sure the motherboard fits, if it does- I'm golden.

Oh. I don't have isopropyl alcohol and never used duck tape for that purpose.

I just know WD40 works wonders for it.

Also, if there is a yellow tint on the casing, you could maybe use what this guy used in his video:

Guess what? I've hacked away all of the plastic inside and I still need to tidy it up but it fits! Very tight. I will have to get a PCIe extension though- but no fret! I can do this! Picture showing it below :)

I look forward to seeing how you manage to fit the power supply and cables in there. What kind of CPU heatsink do you plan on using?

One person suggested a blow style cooler that I will mod to exhaust the hot air from the back or side. Here is a link to it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6J32NM2912&cm_re=cpu_blower-_-9SIA6J32NM2912-_-Product

I need to find it in stock, UK.
