then i5 with R9 290.

 

 i have two 980s and i still feel as if my fx9590 is throttling them.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

i5 and 970, I think the performance is about equal but the heat and power consumption is way worse with the 290 and 8350.

im hoping DX12 will be my savior.

Combo of the cheapest GPU with one out of the I5's

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

You wont see ANYWHERE near 100% of your cards ability with an FX processor.

 

With that said, the i5 with either of those is great.

The FX with either of those... is a waste of money for not just your CPU, but GPU as well.

 

/DirectX is not the saving grace for FX, not all things CAN be parallelized.

not to mention older games and games being developed now wont be using dx12. i highly doubt anything will change, because mantle didnt change much and it did the same thing anyway.

Why not i5 and r9 290? By the way, if you can spend the money for a 970 get an r9 390, it performs better at the same price.

Sounds like AMD build would be cheaper, but if you can afford it go with 4690K/GTX 970.
