reduce chrome cpu usage?

Hey guys,

After switching over to using html5 for youtube (an extension I had allowed me to force playr types), I've noticed some oddly high cpu usages when playing just about anything in chrome, but mainly with 1080p60 content. It runs smooth when not full screened, but will start to drop frames in full screen, and will exceed 50% cpu usage, while doing nothing else on the system (the dropped frames happens on my laptop, but the high cpu usage is also on my desktop).

At first I thought this could be because of the 1080p60 content itself, or html 5, but being on the windows 10 technical preview, I decided to start up Microsoft's new browser (project spartan/ Microsoft edge), and loaded up the same video, and noticed cpu usage indistinguishable from idle (around 5%), so I'm a bit baffled right now... (my desktop is running windows 8 and also has high cpu usages, so it isnt something to do with windows 10)

I would gladly use microsoft edge, but as it does not support add ons yet. I cant run ad block, and they are everywhere xD

Any help would be appreciated, as I do a lot of content consumption on my laptop, and having chrome use so much of the cpu takes a large toll on the battery life, and leads to some warm surface temps...

you sure its not your pc?

im running chrome developer and i kinda want it to use more resources?

i rarely get dropped frames?

and with your specs you shouldn't ether

update chrome?

you tube only uses html5 now on chrome so you don't need the extension

and try the new youtube player at www.youtube.com/testtube

I would hope than an i7 would be able to handle playing a video on chrome xD

I removed the extensions, and its still the same (40%-50% cpu usage while running 1080p60 videos)

are frames dropping?

+ latest version? + 64 bit chrome right?

50% is not high xD,  WITH other things on pc running.

cause it usually works just fine for me on my i3 3.4 ghz

so i don't see why you should have any problems xD

im triple booting 7/8/10 all run it fine.

Frames are dropping, but I'll see if I'm running 64bit chrome, and if that does not work, I'll just endure the ads on project Spartan.

50% does not seem like much, but it is unnecessary when project Spartan is doing the same thing with cpu levels barely above idle, and that 50% is causing the cpu to turbo boost, and reach quite high temps, as the blade has a very passive fan curve...

If you are using a dvi cable to connect to your monitor then make sure it is dual link dvi. I have the same issue on my second monitor and I'm only using a single link dvi cable not dual link.

The issue is on my laptop, so its internally connected to the display...

Either way, I managed to get some janky solution to block ads on Microsoft edge (it does not natively support add-ons yet), so its more usable now, as the cpu usage is significantly lower on it, compared to chrome.
