Video editing & gaming pc - (Nvidia GTX 980 & i7 4790K?)-

I never build a pc myself and now that is saved up some cash I wanted to use this opportunity to build my own pc.

The type of workload I want to do with that build is mostly video editing, graphics and maybe some 3D work all around

the adobe software. So Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and maybe (Cinema 4d), so i think a good graphics card,

32 gb of ram, an i7 cpu and an SSD (paired with a mediadrive) are best. Also i want to run two full hd monitors on this build.

Maybe two BenQ GL2450HM 61 cm (24")

Gaming on this build would be optional, but i would like to play for example Far Cry 4, The Division (when released), Fallout 4 (when released), Battlefield 4 or Assassins Creed. But playing is not the major priority, although I think this rig would be suited for these games.

I would like to get some opinions on this build! As well as some problems I could possibly run into using this system.

Here are the parts that i choose:

bump up to a 980 Ti.  A z87 board won't work with the 4790k out of the box, so find a z97 board.  Since you're getting a 4790k, you probably want to overclock, in which case I'd get a liquid cooler.

If your going to be overclocking I would personally get a better cooler.

I mean, it's not necessary but it'll be quieter.

Also, get this PSU instead :) http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0650v1

And you could get a cheaper/ no Disk reader.

Edit: And a Z97 board. The MSI Gaming 5 is a great board for a nice price.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

That power supply is a horeable choice.

The PSU he picked is fine.  I've got the CX500M, no complaints.

I know 4 guys who had a CX that destroyed over half of the components in there system, when they fail they take everything with them, and corsair won't refund you like they will on there high end stuff.

And me and 5 friends have been running them for years without issue.  You can't just assume based on a small census.

The guy has over 1700$ to spend and he's getting a PSU that had a decent chance of destroying everything he has, and for the same price be can get a 650watt 80+ gold PSU made by seasonic thats quality is insanely superior to a shit CX PSU.

The voltage modulation on that PSU is pretty bad I would recommend the EVGA 650GS.

this build is better because you have a 6 core cpu with the 5820k which is great for workstation use. it is also unlocked so you can overclock it with the corsair cpu cooler. the evo isn't enough. you don't need thermal paste as the corsair comes with it.

i got you cheaper memory. you also have an msi x99 platform now. if you want to save money, go on reddit and buy the os for 30 bucks.

i've calculated psu requirements with the following tool (overclocking included):

http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

you only need a 120gb ssd for the os and the 3tb hdd for everything else. the psu is also highly reviewed by jonny guru:

For costing over 60$ when a 80+ gold fully modular seasonic cost the same and has more wattage it's a bad choice and therefore shit for the amount of money you pay.

Whatever.

Thank to AnnoyedShelf and niofalpha especially to BigDay!

I thought i would only get a reasonably good answer in a week and you guys almost answered immediately! I am by no means an expert in computer building, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Thank you for all the folks, who suggested another PSU :D

I'm going to go with BigDays build and maybe extend the RAM to 32GB and also change to a GTX 980 Ti if my budget will allow me to. I'm not so sure if I want to keep the Drive...

Thank you all for your help so far :))

A z87 board won't work with the 4790k out of the box, so find a z97 board.

My Z87 Sabertooth worked perfectly fine with my 4790k.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

You will understand when it's your CX's turn to blow up the system it's attached to.

It's been running for 2 years straight with no issue, and the system it's connected to is currently just a server for an old game.  I won't mind if or when it dies.

And if it does ship with a old bios you can flash it with a USB drive with no CPU installed, I don't know what @AnnoyedShelf is on about.

Soz, my bad on that one.

Yea all the mid to high range Asus Z87 boards have USB bios flashing, and most Z87/H87 boards now ship with a bios that supports haswell refresh.

Here's a link to the Asus webpage explaining what boards can flash the bios with a thumb drive.

@BigDay I think I'm going with 2x8Gb of RAM, but do you know if I can upgrade to 32GB total?

Because the specs on the motherboard only display that it's a quad channel RAM config.

Also I might upgrade to a GTX 980 Ti, but I'm still not sure.

@ulimania,

the max amount of memory the msi x99s sli plus can handle in total is 132GB:

http://ca.msi.com/product/mb/X99S-SLI-PLUS.html#hero-specification

yes you can upgrade to 32GB total. there are 8 channels available for memory.
