Double graphic card setup

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

Sorry forgot to say. I was not thinking of running SLI on these. Just run them separately.

I hardly see any point in having both in the PC, physx generally runs fine off the CPU/Off your GPU

the 570 will just cause excessive heat inside the PC (potentially reducing performance of other parts) and will consume way more power with higher running costs

one physX, one graphics

Barley any point, really

Hey,

I currently though of running my MSI GTX 970 and Gainward GTX 570.

I have tested it and it works just like i would like it to... But... My question then would be...

Right now my 970 is in the first PCI slot, and the 570 in the second slot (the third is blocked by the SSD).

In desktop use both runs on 60 celsius, but as soon as i pop into a game for example, my 970 pops right up to 70 celsius, then it slowly builds up towards 76 celsius and then it lays around there. As far as i understood, 80 starts being a worrying point.

Before I put the second card in I turned the fans on the 970 up to 70% fan speed at 70 Celsius  and 80% at 80 Celsius.

What would be a better way of moving the air between the cards? Cause without the second card my 970 runs on 60 Celsius with no problems in games.

My case is: NZXT s340

My fans in the front are: Corsair AF14 Quiet Edition (cause i didn't have high performance handy at the time)

Are there ways you guys could suggest me to maybe get a bit more efficient air stream between these cards? I don't really mind noise from fans, so if there are some higher performance fans that are suggested that could push it away better, then please be my guest.

What's your guy's opinion of what i could do?

I did get to my attention that is PCI Expansion SLot Exhuast fans... But i have no clue if that would fix my problem. They just look so small...

Thanks a lot in advance!

Yes indeed it will. But for example, currently I have two DP only monitors that I would like to use, but MSI's GTX 970 only supports 1 DP.

So already there i run into some struggles. So if there is not really any way of moving the air any more effiecnet, then I might as well ditch the other monitor.

for the 3 games that use physx and you can normally turn off and barely notice the difference

(just giving my opinion, I honestly dont think its worth it)

For your second monitor it might be worth it, but there are probably more efficient ways of doing it

or sell it and save up for a second 970

Opinions are there to be shared (i guess sort of) :P

Well, I honestly don't see how a second 970 would be efficient for me due to the heat, unless SLI can fix all my dreams and problems.

It wouldnt sort the heat issue, but you would be benefiting with SLI in supported games

A 570 will really not do anything other than make your 970 hot, honestly except for Borderlands 2 and Arkham Knight I can barely think of any other PhysX games

and BD2 runs perfectly at 1440p 60fps ultra on my 780ti (similar to a  970) and the previous batman games with PhysX on ran fine too (as does metro 2033 and last light)

So, i just find it hard to see why its worth it from my own experience

Really? I wouldnt have thought an i5 would run physx much different to my i7

Thanks a lot for the tips, sir ShadowCaptain.

I will just wait and hear a bit from what other people has to say as well, but i'll borrow my friends 970 and give it a test in SLI :)
