Upgrade advice cpu and motherboard maybe more

Vudian

Msi 970A sli krait edition

amd fx-6300 oc to 4.2ghz

g.skill sniper x2 4gb ddr3 1600

corsair hydro series h100i

pny 120gb ssd

western digital blue 500gb 7200 hdd

corsair cx750m 750w psu

2x geforce gtx 970 stock reference\

driver 353.30

windows 8.1/windows 10 public test

zalman z11 black steel

i am looking to upgrade my motherboard and cpu, i feel like they are holding back my gpu quite a bit. using them in sli does not seem to help my fps much on a 24'' 1920x1080 60hz monitor in any of the games i have tried. ffxiv heavensward, batman arkham knight, dying light, the witcher, shadow of mordor, battlefield 4, or ark. also with the h100i on my cpu, if i use the dim slot closest to the cpu its will push on it quit hard making it lean and almost touch the one next to it.

im looking to drive a 2560x1080 monitor for gaming and a 2nd monitor for webpages i might have up or videos/music i have going while i game, i do a little bit of video rendering when i decide to record a little bit in my free time. also want to improve how my motherboard looks as well,i normally have quite a few people around my pc so i though the sabertooth z97 mark s would be a nice upgrade. have not decided on a cpu yet. tring to stay around 500-600 usd on the both. any advice would be great. i hope i covered everything.

Asus sabertooth z97 mark s

i5 4690k

corsair 750d

thats about 660usd

would it be that much more beneficial to spend the extra 100usd and get a  i7 4790k?
