That's one hell of a messy desktop ):

How many tabs are you running? If it's just a few, with no other programs, it's not really normal.

Look in your processes tab for any program taking up a load of RAM, then find out what it is.

For reference, with Windows 7, I use around 6.2GB with 3 Chrome windows (each with about 10 tabs open), 2 videos, hotspot shield, MusicBee and a load of Windows Explorer windows open.

Try running a virus/malware scan if there's no program in particular that's using so much RAM. If nothing comes up, you may want to reinstall Windows, or clear your startup folder.

Some programs may be caching data.

A few programs I use rarely every need more than 200MB, but its not uncommon for them to use 3+ GB.

On my companies servers, each one has 32GB of RAM, nearly 20GB of which is only used for caching.

Unless you are running at 80% or greater usage, i wouldnt really worry about it

If you log out and log back into windows, how high does your ram usage gets?

The stars died for you to be here today.
