3D animation/modeling basic build

Hello all!

I've been doing some 3D animation, however I've been having some bad freezing with my current computer. I want to get some suggestions on what hardware I should consider. This will be a system dedicated to animation, and while gaming build are fairly easy to understand I don't have the first clue on what I should look at for systems like this. Any help is appreciated, thx!

CPU: Intel I5-4670K@ 4 Ghz, Mobo: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H, GPU: Gigabyte GTX 780, PSU: EVGA 850W Gold, Case: Corsair Spec-01, HDD's: 120GB boot,1TB games,2TB storage, Optical Drive: Generic DVD (Writer?)(occasionally), Misc: Avermedia Live gamer HD, random wireless card my father had(Occasionally)

Normally its due to gpu, but i can see that you have 660 which should be enough for normal use. Either you have not optimized your scene or maybe ram. Which software do you use?

EVGA SR-2 / 2x Intel Xeon X5675 4.4Ghz OC / 24GB EEC 1800Mhz OC/ AMD RX570 / Enermax Evoliution 1050W / Main RAID 0: 2x256GB 840EVO SSD / BackUp(1) Raid 5: 3x2TB WD HDD / BackUp(2) 8x2TB / Dell U2412M / Dell U2312HM

I have 12gb of RAM and use Autodesk software namely 3ds max currently. I only have a spartan model from halo reach and changing the colour causes freezing as well as when animating things just hitch up

does your software use your cpu or gpu more?

I don't know. How do I check?

gpu and cpu monitoring software. intel extreme tuning utility will monitor your cpu usage or you can hit ctrl alt delete and use the windows software. in terms of gpu usage monitoring, you can download msi afterburner.

monitor the cpu and gpu while you are using your software programs. rendering things etc. see where the usage is primarily. make sense?

edit:

ctrl alt delete > task manager > performance

^ that's how you monitor cpu usage

What quality level are you trying to preview in. If you hare working in Viewport 2.0 and have lighting quality on best, ofcourse it will hitch up as the frame buffer still trying to go through all info. Are you previewing your animation in grayscale(non shaded) or wireframe? If not, try it

There's no major load on anything

I've tried what I could and there wasn't a performance improvement

what's your 4670k overclocked at?

I believe it's at 3.6 Ghz
