For the first time ever GTA IV runs ok on AMD.

kipper

For me anyway...

No matter what settings i used, the game would drop as low as 16FPS for no reason with low GPU usage and poor utilization of the CPU.

Now my Phenom is up at 4.3ghz again now, and that made no difference.

What i found out is that AMD drivers hold back AMD in GTA IV...

I had to use Radeon Pro to fix the issues.

Below is 22FPS whilst doing nothing.

Now in Radeon Pro i globally forced pre rendered frames to 1, and changed texture LOD to -2, this brought the games performance up substantially to 38-50FPS, but with that framerate i decided to cap it to 30, and have a smooth 30FPS, over a wonky 38-50.

Here it is in action...

Well yeah, at least AMD does optimize it across every card they made instead of gimping the previous series.

Patch it out and it works fine on all cards. GTA IV was a mess and still is. GTA V runs smoother than IV.

Buuuuurn! :D

But seriously though, I hate this inconsistency across games. Some run so much better on Nvidia cards that you get a mid ranger with FPS of a high end card. And on some you find AMD running so much better. Can't it all just be consistent or must always someone buy off the company that makes the game. :D

Firstly GTA 4 is one shittiest PC ports of all time, at the time it ran like crap on Intel side aswell. Secondly, its a single threaded game i believe, so it will run shitty on AMD side always, until Zen is out with promised improvements or you OC the crap out of your AMD chip like i did.

GTA V runs smoother than the IV, good technology used in developing the V. I see a lot of difference when playing online remotely via in the GTA V rather than its predecessor. So glad it also runs on AMD, thus bringing the best out of the game.

I've run this game on my 8800GT, 5870, 7970 and 7970 crossfire, It's always run fine... on both a intel (q6600) and AMD system (phenom x6 1090t and fx 8350). Never had problems and heard from everyone around me they had problems with it everywhere.

haven't tried it with my new 5960x though, but i suspect it will run just fine :P.

Nope, I maxed it out on a i5-2500 with a 4870x2 @1080p without issues.  Didn't even bother forcing the card to go into crossfire mode.  I had anywhere between 40 and 60fps, but had to do some pretty crazy stuff like blowing up half a dozen cars at the same time to hit 40.
