Avast seems to work alright.

No No No No No No No

Why do you recommend paid software

Well all good one are , and there's always the free trial . I tend to practise the monthly purge . That means installing K. and MB. and Ccleaner. and Defraggler and make the system like new . And once the gunk builds up i redo it again !

Also i forgot it's paid so i'm sorry OP

You honestly don't need one. Just use your common sense and don't click on shit that seems weird. Windows Defender is running in the background anyways, you can even turn that off if you're confident. Just make sure to run a malwarebytes scan every month or so and you're golden, no need for 1000 background processes from an antivirus program that cause problems.

To be honest mate I just rock around with AVG free edition. Works fine. Any free antivirus isn't too bad.

My combo.  ZoneAlarm Firewall and BitDefender ( light and scans in the background.)

Your brain? That's better antivirus than any software.

Not sure why people say that. I best to not wear my seatbelt because I know am a good driver and won't get into any accidents.

Firewall.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

I would continue using it except I don't think it can schedule scans which I perform on my NAS once a week.

Free?

Avast is probably the best free one out there. AVG has a higher amount of false positive.

Both are heavy on the system though.

If you don't care about that, then Avast + a malwarebyte scan every once in a while.

Otherwise there's Avira, which isn't too heavy on the system but lacks a lot of feature in the free version, but is also considered one of the best out there at the moment.

But really, use whatever you prefer, there's no such thing as a "best anti virus" out there. As long as it's up to date, any anti virus will do the job, the rest is up to personal preferences... some common knowledge like not using IE and not browsing shady websites also help a lot.
