My New Build - Welcome Alternative Hardware Suggestions

Hi Guys,

Looking for any advice on these parts - not keen on going up in price much unless decent gaming gains to be had. Play a good mix of RPG, simulation, occasional shooters (nothing competitive).

Hoping to add second 980TI in a few years depending on how the market develops.

Already have a 850EVO 500gb to put in.

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

Corsair H90 94.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card / Gigabyte alternative

NZXT H440 (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

Corsair 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

Monitor

Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144Hz 27.0" Monitor / Welcome other suggsetions

Thanks for the help!

Overkill mobo.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

I'd drop to an MSI Z97 Gaming 5 and an EVGA G2 850W you don't lose features and still have plenty of headroom for SLI and overclocking.

I'd also upgrade to a Kraken X61.

You end up with better cooling and saving 100

The use of a black and white case with all red and black components seems a little odd to me but everyone has their preferences.

If you are not doing anything else such as video editing/rendering or streaming etc then you can drop down to an i5 4690K and 8GB Ram along with a cheaper cooler.

What res do you play at?

Edit: Dont worry, just saw what you are getting. If you are not playing competitively then why are you getting 144Hz may I ask?

Also, I recommend you to buy a HDD, since 500GB won't cut, especially when GabeN is around.

I would go with this and either pick the 144hz 1440p IPS, or 60hz 4K TN for your moniter, both feature g-sync.

I am pretty sure 1000W is overkill, even for SLI. This is Intel/Nvidia we are dealing with...

Thank you all, Will check those out!

I know its a tonne of money, but was hoping it would last a while longer with the better parts as opposed to saving a couple of hundred £ now. also been wanting to do a build for 6+ years now, so might aswell make it a good one!

I started looking for whiter/blue parts, but ended up switching parts in and out to this.. Might look at the other 440 colours as i agree on the mismatch now.

Keen to look at other monitors if you guys dont think the 144hz is worth it as i'm not competitive - but was still wanting to get g-sync. Not so sold on 4k at this size with having to scale most things and wouldn't the card struggle a bit?

A 980ti can get average of 60 fps on most games maxed out near maxed in 4k, and my personal opinion is that 144hz is not worth it.
