Lets talk about smurfs?

MattLantis

Ok, so smurfs are annoying. Everybody knows that, unless you are the smurf in which case shame on you, you're an ass ruining people's time.

That being said, everybody complains about them, including myself. The more and more I play, though, the more I realize smurfs really aren't that good. Or at least in my case.

I'll give an example. I was Nova 2 and I was playing against a full team with an MGE. By the end of the game, we had 2 bots on CT side and wound up winning.... I thought MGE's were a lot better than that.

Another example: Yesterday I was playing on Dust 2, started off T side, and had an AFK right off start. Hate those assholes. So we had a bot since round 2, and we were playing against a team with 2 GNMs, 2 GN3, and an LEM. They wound up beating us 14-16....

That just screams not that good.

What are your guys experiences with smurfs?

Since the VAC waves lower skilled players have been getting to MGE+ super easily and I don't see anything wrong with smurfs I mean if u want to get better u need to play better players and learn from them.

I would say don't worry about rank too much. Just play for fun. I've just started playing and people always accuse me of smurfing just because I top frag, when it's only because I practiced aiming a lot. It's a lot more fun when you don't stress out like crazy over the game. Whenever I've played against people smurfing I try to learn from how they're playing.

Had them many times, and it's a pretty unpleasant experience.

However there was a couple times I had to smurf myself. Not for personal pleasure, but I played in parties with friends of mine that are recent beginners and were getting slammed by the people matchmaking assigned against us, thanks to my higher mmr. With me using a different account they got assigned with fair opponents, and we could actually play the game altogether without problems. I tried to go easy and let my friends learn as much as possible.

It is not really that complicated a problem. Some people might get kicks out of playing with b00ns every now and then but they tend to be a minority.

The original "smurfs" were people who were so good that nobody wanted to play with them. They had to make new nicks in order to get games.

CS:GO high tier MM is full of hackers and such and it really just might not be fun playing there at times, but they want to play somewhere.

Dota 2 MM gets garbage and the games get worse the higher you go. If you are ~6k you might end up matched with ~4k people (even lower goes) and 7K++ people can get matched with sub 4k players. The matchmaking sucks balls big time at higher tiers and the games get too random, while at 5k+ you get still relatively easy games but at least the game is not actively trying to handicap you and force you to play high-impact roles where you make up for all the lack of good allies.

The reasons why most people smurf is because the games do not cater to higher tier players who are not playing in tournaments. They need communities and such to play in but those too tend to be rather exclusive clubs. It is nothing like the old times where managing a custom server was rather trivial and supported by the makers of the game, now you need to have someone who makes sure the game works every patch and fixes everything the dev breaks. As such only paid platforms like FaceIT or ESEA exist, and those do not cater to the players who can play at high-level but cannot dedicate themselves completely to the game.

Just going to point out: If you're smurfing, you probably don't care anywhere near as much and are bound to be fucking around more.

I've not found a lot of them to be that good over all, just excruciatingly annoying. They're good at getting kills usually but have absolutely 0 tactics with their team then bitch and moan when they lose to a bunch of Nova II's.

Personally I don't understand the idea behind creating an entirely new steam account, paying for a game you already own, just to smurf. If you wanna play fuck around go to casual, don't cancer up my games.

Also, it's not a learning experience to get instantly headshot by a guy technically multiple divisions above you in any game, only when you learn by playing against slightly harder opponents and slowly learn from that do you gain experience.

Knowledge is power, guard it well.

play faceit or CEVO. If you'd like a botnet and the lose of £6 then play ESEA.
