PC Running in Slow Motion

Radioactivetux

Hi guys!

So a friend of mine has come to me with a bizarre problem where his computer is literally running in slow motion; the windows move slowly, the mouse judders and it takes a millenia to turn on and perform any task.

I've run memory checkers, Intel CPU diagnostics and checkdisk and apparently the system is working fine. He tells me that it was in sleep mode one day, then he turned it on and it was like that.

I've reinstalled all drivers on the computer (and I mean all.. it took and entire day) and the CPU and RAM both sit around 50% usage.

Have any of you guys come across anything like this?

Thanks!

Have you checked that he hasn't accidentally turned the clock speed way down on something?

That pc sounds like fun :D If I can't fix a problem in half a day, I normally just do a clean install of Windows. Are you sure this isn't a prank somebody played on your friend? (Low mouse sensitivity)

It's a old as hell desktop PC, and it's not a prank or anything obvious. It idles at around 50% but the process list is completly normal. He is running Windows 7.

Guys i've even flashed his BIOS... I don't know what else I can try.

Also the clock speed of his ram is still 1333Mhz and his CPU is at 2.8 which is where it has always been!

I'd go for a fresh install of Windows. If the error still occurs after that, then something might be wrong with the hardware

The process list isn't normal if it idles at 50% :P Idle should be max 2% (CPU of course) My computer idles at 1% CPU usage and 4GB Ram usage out of 8GB and that is with 5 chrome tabs open and Steam downloading games and skype open :D

So a 5 year old pentium can't idle at around 50% whilst running skype and other basic programs such as an anti-virus and a firewall? okay then.

No need to get mad, I was just making a statement. You never gave the specs so how was I supposed to know it was a 5 year old computer?
