FINALLY HAVE MONEY !

Hey guys, ive made a couple posts about a new GOU but i finally have the money and am going to buy one today.

I just need your guys' final thoughts,  im thinking the 290 or 290x, but i would like to know if theres something better or nvidia equal around same price.

Im looking to buy from newegg.ca, if theres any other/cheaper canadian sites to buy from that info would be great.

Thanks for all the help.

EDIT:  im just looking for 1080p on a single monitor,  i have a second but i use it for multitasking.

So what's your budget..?

Prices are always fluctuating, it's better to know your budget instead of going after what the cards cost..

I am guessing a 970 is the nvidia equivalent.

Since you are gaming on a 1080p monitor (and hopefully more than 60hz one) I would rather go with the 970 since it will be really quiet when it's under 50 degrees (celsius).

I am guessing that it doesn't need to work very hard to achieve your 60+ fps on 1080p, I don't know though since I do not own one.

a 970 is great for 1080p, on max settings with AA on Skyrim and GTA V I do not always get 60fps but at lowest around 45 fps so not too bad. The 290x is slightly better, I think? There's marginal difference anyways but the 290x works hotter and louder and consumes more power. They are both great cards! On 1080p you shouldn't be hitting 3.5gb vram usage on the 970, according to seeing what others have posted, but I on the other hand do hit that 3.5gb fairly frequently on GTA V and Skyrim. It runs 60fps max settings (but 2x MFAA) on BF3.

I recommend the AMD R9 290x, or the Nvidia GTX 970. It should be worth noting to check out the 300 series cards, even though they are rebrands, they'll offer good performance at a good price.

290's these days provide a very compelling price to performance ratio, so if the pricing isnt skewed, that would likely be your best bet (generally the 290x is a good bit more expensive for the small performance jump it gives)

the gtx 970 would be nvidia competitor, but it will likely cost more as well.

You will rarely (or never) do it on 1440p too.

Probably because I use advanced graphics on GTA V, almost maxed except high resolution shadows (they are turned off). But no idea how on skyrim, I have many mods but not loads of high res 4k textures. Mainly 2k textures, such as tree bark and ivy that's all.
