Can you guarantee the source of the /r/microsoftsoftwareswap keys? Given the pricing that they usually sell for, I highly suspect those are MSDN keys too.

I buy from this subreddit all the time, and my keys have worked great. One of my MANY keys did stop working after 6 months, but it's because I activated it like 10 times. However, the guy replaced my key with no questions asked. Always buy from s5ean, he's the best :)

Also, $10-$15 cheaper :)

That doesn't answer the question though. Can you guarantee where those keys are coming from?

If they are MSDN keys, then you might as well just pirate, as it's about the same level of ethics (Disregarding, for the moment, whether you feel pirating is okay or not).

If they are NOT MSDN keys, then it begs the question: Where the hell does he get them, in such large quantities, such that he can sell them for so dirt cheap? Looking at the prices that this "s5ean" offers, $25 for Windows 8.1 Pro, and $20 for Windows 7 Pro? I cannot possibly think of a way he's getting those keys in a legitimate manner for resale.

Do not buy these keys. I bought one and it worked perfectly fine until I went to reinstall Windows. These ARE pirated keys that will work once but Microsoft will find them and flag them as pirated. This should also mean that you won't be able to upgrade to Windows 10.

SOME of them certainly may be straight up pirated. Most of them are likely MSDN keys. Others will be cheap keys bought in 3rd world markets and resold at a profit in 1st world markets.

There is, however, literally no way of knowing until/unless your key stops working.

Regardless, most of the people who clicked this thread are interested in cheap reliable keys, and the fact of the matter is /r/microsoftsoftwareswap is $10-$15 cheaper and can be way more reliable than G2A.

what is an MSDN key and what do you mean your key stops working?

MSDN: Microsoft Developer Network

Colloquially, it refers to a subscription based membership program, open to IT Professionals, and Software Developers.

You pay a yearly fee, based on the specific tier package you choose, and it gives you access to specific Microsoft products within that tier.

Each higher level of tier, gives you access to more of Microsoft's Library, with the top tier basically giving you access to every Microsoft product, including all OS's (Desktop and Server), Microsoft Office (Including earlier versions - up to a point), Visual Studio, etc.

You are allotted a number of keys for each product (With TechNet, you got 2 keys each, not sure how many you get with MSDN). Each key can be activated usually on up to 10 devices simultaneously.

ALL of these products are SPECIFICALLY PROVIDED for the following reasons (more or less):

1. Software development

2. Testing Software deployment

3. Testing new deployments of OS/Network configurations

4. Learn new Microsoft products/self education

It's against the user agreement to use any keys for production environments (They're for testing only), and it's against the user agreement to resell the keys.

People used to constantly resell TechNet keys too (Same idea, but for IT Professionals specifically, and you had no access to Visual Studio) on G2A, eBay, Reddit, etc. However, because there was rampant abuse, with people subscribing and reselling their keys, Microsoft canned TechNet completely, which screwed over all the legitimate users (like myself) who used TechNet to test new Microsoft products and learn the new systems.

MSDN keys often expire after a year or so. A subscriber gets a new allotment of keys every year though, so for legitimate users, expiring keys aren't a problem.

I went with G2A a few months ago and I haven't had issues. Using a PID Checker the key shows as a OEM key which is what I bought. As for /r/MSsoftwareswap, I didn't go with them just because I knew I could get a refund/replacement from G2A. :)

Well it's not so much that a key from G2A is guaranteed to automatically be a pirated key, it's just that a LOT of their keys come from disreputable sources, like grey market (buying overseas in a low priced region and reselling in 1st world regions for profit), MSDN keys, etc.

MSDN keys don't expire...I've been using them for a LONG time (I have/had an MSDN account, cancelled the account, still do software development though, the subscription is not worth the high cost).

MSDN accounts themselves expire, but the keys don't.  My MSDN installs have even gotten the Windows 10 notification recently.

Edit:  That being said, G2A itself isn't the culprit, but rather 3rd party sellers.  For legit, reusable keys, go with a legit source like amazon.com.
