If I upgrade motherboards and chipset say from fm2+ to z97 will i need to buy a new copy of windows to install or am I ok just to install the parts and drivers and continue as I was.

You don't need to buy a new copy, unless it's an OEM version. Just use the disk, or create a bootable USB installer and use your existing key to install.

No, you will only have to reactivate it after it detects the change of chipset and CPU.
Please note that it takes a little work uninstalling drivers before switching the motherboard if you haven't already noted.

(The cost of not doing this is windows cannot be used, if you already switched just use a program called Paragon)
