GPU not working on MacBook | FAH

Hi,

I have installed FAH for my macbook. The control panel does not recognize the GPU as if it was not there - only the CPU. GPU is just idling.

Only 15 inch and its an m370x either way not gunna help in folding, cpu will do alot more

Anyone who buys a 15 inch retina is a moron, i can buy a gaming laptop with a desktop cpu and a 980m for that much money.

True we dont know which one he has

Sadly, without some serious hacking you cannot fold on your GPU on a Mac. There is a problem with the way the Mac's kernel handles which application has access to what hardware, and Stanford simply does not have the time to work around this issue.

Every little bit counts though, so dont get down that you cannot fold on your GPU. Your CPU is more than enough :D

Then a dell xps 2015 is cheaper and better too.

My point was one can get alot more for less $

I burnt my leg on the bottom of my old macbook. (i hate macbooks they run too damn hot)

There are many reasons to get a MacBook over a Windows machine.

Unless i know nothing about technology or am over 50 years old i see no reason.

Ill give ya a handful right here -

1. Build quality, MacBooks have far superior build quality (good example is the chassis and track pad)

2. OSX, a lot of people simply enjoy it better than Windows

3. Even if you get a MB, you can run Windows on it later if you wish to do so.

4. Battery life on MacBooks is generally far superior to most Windows laptops (mostly, not always the case)

5. Apple's insurance - Yeh, its actually quite good.

I was a mac user for like 6 years and moving to windows was the best thing i ever did. I find the trackpad on my thinkpad better than my macbook pro 2012, i find the keyboard 100 times better, i also find it to feel like a military tank that can take a beating where as the macbook feels like a china plate IMO, my thinkpad gets almost the same battery life (7 hours)

Only think i like about apple is the amazing warranty, it actually is very very good  (replaced my macbook when it over heated)

I simply gave facts and i agree they have a great warranty. Other than that and some people prefering the trackpad or status symbol of a mac i see no reason to buy a macbook especially if i was gunna be folding.

Huh, that's funny since some people might actually have to buy a MacBook with the Retina display. Please, take your fanboyness and dildoness somewhere else.

Why do they HAVE to buy a macbook with a retina display?

I used to be an apple fanboy for years, i used a windows pc for a month and then sold my mac.

I have only given facts and you people say "dildoness" okay well give me reasons why someone would buy a mac? As i said before, unless i know nothing about tech, want an amazing warranty or want the status of owning a macbook i dont see a reason, please enlighten me.

Macbooks only have one click, which i got used to but now i use a normal mouse with 2 buttons on my thinkpad and then used a buddies mac and it pissed me off so much having to tap with 2 fingers, oh and my fav thing i also never noticed and got used to, to "delete" i need to press fn+delete and their "delete" key is actually backspace. Last thing, they run too hot, as i said i actually burnt my leg by putting my macbook on my legs once, the shell was at 104C underneath (i checked it with a laser temp gun as i wanted to report it to apple)

A replacement battery on my thinkpad is 30$, new one for a macbook is 150-200$ depending on the model

My dad has a macbook air for web browsing etc and how does apple still sell computers with 4GB of RAM? He opens up like 15-20 tabs and safari fills up all remaining RAM. He is not a power user and constantly is needing my help becuase it freezes from opening a few dozen tabs, for a computer with PCIe storage this is pathetic, swap space should be preventing this from happening.

I have kept my reasons above very factual and from personal experiance.

Other than the reasons i have given, why on earth would one buy a mac?

At the time of purchase MacBook was the best option (fall 2013), now I'd love to have DELL XPS 2015 instead. And you're right about temps, it's damm hot and cooling is not well though out.

It could be that OS X is locking u out of using the GPU for folding

The people up there (Some of them) Probably can't help you, So I'll do my best.

If you have a 13 inch macbook pro, you cannot fold on the GPU, as it is integrated.

If you have a 15 inch macbook pro, with a 370 or a nvidia GPU, then try to install windows. When you do that, then possibly you can fold. If it doesn't show there, Pull up the advanced viewer, go to configure, go to the slots tab, click add, and add a GPU slot. If that doesn't work, I don't think you can get it. Sorry if it comes to that. You can fold on the CPU, as every bit helps.

First of all, thanks for help.

Under Windows FAH detected GPU and was running fine. However, I use OS X 99% of time, so I tried to make it work there. In FAH, I added the GPU slot and it detected as GT 750m, but it initiated project dowload that never actually downloaded anything so it doesn't work as a matter of fact.

I attempted using BOINC, but it doesn't use GPU either. The project should use nVidia GPU (asteroids@home), at least it does on my desktop.

If you could help me make the GPU work in OS X would be great, otherwise my GTX780 ti, overclocked tto the limit, will have to do all the work)))))

alot of money and materials go to waste when making a macbook. solid block of aluminum is shaped then scrapes are thrown away

but simplicity is the only reason why they are bought.

I can confirm. I use a MacBook Air for school. The thing is built like a beast and the battery lasts for days. My "Logic Board" broke and they gave me a free replacement. The one that they replaced it with was faulty too so they replaced that for free as well.
