Youtubedownloader works but the compression is not the greatest. Perhaps a software that records whatever is played like Audacity and export as lossless?

There's this song in which the uploader does not and hasn't provide/d a link to a song that I really, really like, nor has he/she given me information on where he/she bought it (atleast not yet... but its been like 8 months since the day I've asked him/her). Since he/she wouldn't provide info on it, I did whatever I can on the internet to search and buy the copy of the album that song is part of. Welp, it ended in vain. I even reached the point of 18 pages on Google, Bing, and Yahoo... which lead me to porn sites already.

Since the video is still up, has anyone used a Youtube to MP3 converter? Something like the one from FreeStudioManager (If you guys know better software than this, I'm very open to your recommendations)? If so, is the conversion and/or compression good enough to retain the audio quality after conversion and/or compression? I don't really want to pirate since I want to support the artist directly, however... since I do fear that the copyright powlees are gonna come sooner or later, I don't want that song to just disappear since I don't even know which album that song is part of.

Anyway, YouTube is 128kbps, not very high quality.

I've used Freemake Video Downloader (no not for the same purpose but because I'm careless and often delete video's I posted and end up needing again later).

You can download the video at any quality and then it auto converts it to whatever you want (mp3, mp4, avi, you name it).

Well, yeah, but the song's good enough (subjectively) that I don't mind that its 128kbps. I just want to know if a converter will degrade it enough that it loses audio fidelity.

It's within the realm of possibility, especially if you listen to the output vs the source before it was uploaded onto Youtube side by side.

Well, yeah, It leads me to other versions of the same song... which I'm not particularly a fan of.

I'll try Audacity and export it as lossless in WAV or FLAC.

Have you tried finding it on SoundCloud? I've found that they have just about every song, and the original poster (usually the creator) cam decide if they'll let you download for free, or if they want you to pay some amount or other.

Just gonna throw this one in: on IOS 8, Siri is connected to shazam. Just play the track, open siri, and ask her (or him), 'what's the name of this song', and siri will listen and 'ask' shazam.

Well, I'd love to use Siri. Annoyingly, I have an iPhone 4 (non-S) and I'm too much of a pussy do some software work to get iOS 8 to work on it (almost bricked this phone TWICE! I'm that stupid with software on phones.)

That's the good thing about IOS. It's virtually indestructible. I did few jailbreaks that stopped in the middle (not on IOS 8.1.3, because there are no jailbreaks as of yet), installed faulty cydia tweaks, upgraded and downgraded IOS, even got the IOS to give an error message or something. All that it takes was just restore from backup, and it's up and running again.
